Uncover Hidden Talent: Hire the World’s Top New Digital Artists
I was always interested in character design, drawing day in day out.I had a very technological upbringing where arts were just a "hobby". I just did not realize I could make a career out of this, until I started looking for universities. I visited an open day at an art academy and saw that making those characters actually is a job! The film and games industry is a perfect combination between technology and arts.
When I was young, I first picked up a controller and it was crash bandicoot 1. It was the only game I owned on PlayStation 1. I was playing it so much I got intrigued by how they created these 3D virtual spaces. I then would make levels by sketching them in a journal I used to keep. As I grew older I loved stories even more and saw myself as a storyteller. I wanted to combine my love of stories with games. And in came Final fantasy that sparked the idea of stories can be within games.
I realised I wanted to work within the creative and entertainment industry as soon as I left school. I went on to do a Foundation in Art and Design, which is where the career path I wanted to head down became clear. This then lead me to the University of Hertfordshire where I learnt the skills to become a Character Artist.
I’ve always been interested in how assets were created for films and games over the years of consuming media and playing games. The tipping point was when I watched the avengers and was amazed at all the cg assets that came to life on screen through the efforts of the many artists behind the scenes.
I have always been creatively inclined, prefering an art related hobby such as painting miniatures (Warhammer). Within highschool I experimented with creating levels inside of the source engine for Garys Mod. Although not particularly successful, I enjoyed the experience and knew this is a career that I could feasably go through.
In high school I knew I wanted to do something creative. Drawing and art was great but there was something about 3D mediums like clay sculptures, lego and model making that I loved. Combine that with video games, one of my hobbies, and suddenly there are endless stories, challenges and worlds to explore.
I was about 14 years old when I realised that there must be more to games than it is to play them. Thats when I started to explore 3D software and just researching the process of creating 3D world. I've started off small, following tutorials, making simple objects, but soon I was able to create better looking work which just sparked an insane passion for 3D.
As a young child, I was always captivated by the TV screen. Hours upon hours, watching VHS tapes of movies led me to enjoy the creative flow and engaging story line. It was at that age where I began creating my own movies on my old Nintendos, creating flipnote comics and recording the wild adventures featuring my hamster. My interest in films and TV has ceased to fade even as a young adult, and I aim to progress through the industry, achieving the very best.
Video games have always played a central role in my personal and (recently) academic life, I think they have an ability to engage and challenge unlike any other media. Being able to creatively realise stories and worlds, whilst overcoming technical hurdles and problems to create enjoyable and engaging games/experiences would be the ultimate job.
I first realised my passion for Games Art when I was 14, upon my discovery of the Counterstrike: Global Offensive map editor. I began designing my own levels but became much more interested in the aesthetic element of the levels, eventually dedicating my use of the software to creating grounded levels with high visual quality and artistic flare. Eventually I branched out into making my own models using Blender, and then began using the unreal engine.
