Round of applause for our sponsors

When I studied Event Management, before Digital Arts & Entertainment (DAE), I realised I didn't want to work in that sector so I looked into my interests and found that in my hometown there is a university that teaches making games. I immediately was intrigued and joined. As soon as I started I knew I wanted to work in this sector.

Well I was about 13 years old when I was playing soldier with my cousins and we were making our own stories. We started to film all of that and soon enough I had this passion for film growing in me. I then started learning VFX to be able to pump the quality of those awfull videos. One thing led to another I got into the 3D world and Never got enough of it.

I have always been really creative. Drawing, painting, sculpting, so I really wanted to do something with that. And then one day I saw a breakdown of a Final Fantasy clip. I was blown away and decided after some more research that I wanted to be a part of something similar.

I was fascinated at capturing interesting stories before thinking about studies. I really had the feeling that games have a big potential at telling stories and stimulating passions. When I discovered you could actually study how to make games, I was sold.

In my teens, I was never aware I could create. I would find myself lost (and found), wandering within the imaginary worlds created by other people, yet the idea to create something of my own was never there. Until I started college and discovered the wondrous world of 3d. Suddenly I found my heart jumping. Ever since then, my outlook on life has changed drastically. I used to be scared of the prospect of leading a working life. Now I look forward to it, Imagining all that could be

I first realised i wanted to work in the creative industrie ever Since my brother enrolled in the same school as I am in now. I've always been creative but didn't know I wanted to make my career out of it. I didn't thin kit was possible to combine my gaming passion with my career in the future. i'm very happy to have found the school that i am in now

At some point I realised, after having played lots of games throughout my childhood, that I started watching videos on the behind the scenes of games and found lots of interest in them. After realising that I only got stronger passions towards the world behind the games, I knew I had to look deeper into it. Before long I found out that my current school could help teach me these things in depth, I enrolled there as soon as I could and am happily learning and improving on the subject.

It was a combination of watching youtube and movies during my teenage years. Especially youtube set a spark to start trying out editing software early on in my free time after school, which eventually led to a passion for CGI.

Around a decade ago my father introduced GameMaker to my siblings and I. From there I got really interested in 3d modelling, programming and game design. In september 2019 I formally started studying game graphics production at Howest Digital Arts & Entertainment. So that's when I decided I wanted to make my hobby into my job.

when I was 11 I saw a behind the scenes from the harry potter franchise. One of the actors was walking around the set and talking about all the different departments there are on a filmset. I immediately fell in love with the art department. The fact that I could combine my love of drawing/creating with my love of films was the perfect combination!

When I was 18 years old I already wanted to enroll in Digital Arts and Entertainment cause I always had a passion of creating things on the computer. However at that time I was too young and I wasn't mature enough to seriously work for school. I went to work in a factory but always regretted not doing the thing I wanted to do. Now 5 years I finally started my dream and I couldn't be happier with this decision.

I never realised it. It realised me.

I always knew I wanted to do something artistic, I love animation & storytelling and always wanted to be a part of it. During my lifetime I did let go a bit of the idea that this could actually be my career, so I studied Interior Design. During this time I realised I need to create stuff that is more out of bound of reality. So I gathered my courage and started an education at Howest - Digital Arts & Entertainment and now I'm finally following through with my childhood dreams.

I've always loved watching movies and after a while, I wondered how certain scenes were realized. So I started looking at breakdown videos and behind-the-scenes footage. From then on, I knew I wanted to do something in the movie industry.

I always wanted to do something with games when i was younger. When I found out that there is a school for it I signed me in.

After I graduated from high school, like many, I was unsure what to do next. I loved creating things, so being stuck behind books for another 5 years, wasn't really what I had in mind. I stumbled upon my school's website and was immediately hooked, everything looked so exciting and new. Just the thought that I would one day be able to do that, convinced me to actually enroll. I never regretted that decision, everything is still as exciting and I learn new things everyday.

When I first played the Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time I realized how much I want to create my own levels, mechanics or even game. Back then I didn't had any idea on how to start, so after I finished my A-Level I looked for schools that offer courses related to games. I started out with Media Informatics, but that was a bit to general, so I switched to Game Design and now I am studying Game Graphics.

Ever since I was a little boy I was fascinated by video games, all things related to 3D, concept art, movies, special effects. I knew from a very young age I wanted to work in this industry one way or another. Fast forward 20 years... For more information you can always visit my Arstation: www.artstation.com/simonketels

I want to make history! literally and figuratively

It was around 2018 that I started developing an interest in the world of visual effects but I knew right away this would be more than just another hobby. Ever since then I've been working hard to succeed in this field.

My entire life I've played videogames. Escaping reality and diving into a world so powerful and beautiful in every way was my favourite thing in the world, and it still is. I fell in love with so many games and they changed so much for me. The inspiring and amazing stories, the characters developing with you as you play and the environments where you just want to take a moment to appreciate it all made me realize that that was the road I wanted to take.

As long as I can remember I have loved art and sciences. At a higher education fair a few years back I met Dirk a teacher at DAE. He told me about the industry and I fell in love. It has been 5 years and I haven't regretted it once!
