On my way to becoming a 3D Character Artist

I used to doodle lots of weird creatures during class in school. This was how I learned that I love to create creatures and other things that don’t exists. Later I got into a school focused on 3D-art although I had no experience in the field of game art (or 3D-art for that matter). I’ve been attending Playgroundsquad for almost a year now, and I’ve learned so much. I love creating 3D characters and aim to learn even more! One day soon I will be working professionally in the industry!

Since I can remember I have always loved sculpting, since I was very little until I was in my final year of high school. Little by little I started focusing on other things and “forgot” about sculpting but then my passion was rekindled when I played dark souls 3 for the first time. I decided I wanted to be a digital sculptor and create creatures and characters as memorable as the ones from the videogames I loved.

After more than 10 years working professionally in graphic design and digital illustration, I decided to dedicate a full year to studying and refining my skills by taking a Masters Degree in 3D Character Modeling for Cinema and Videogames in 2021. Now I became freelance to offer my skills to the industry. I was honored to be in the top 20 finalists for the Rookie Awards 2021 and 2022, in the category of 3D Animation and certified by the judges with the highest rating "Rank A".

When I get my studies in programming I had to make a projects that involved the art of design. Working in design made me realize that what I really wanted to do. I finished my studies in app development and I started to learn 3D art. I am in FX Animation studying the master degree in videogames.

Since I was 14 years old I knew I wanted to make videogames. On my own I started learning online tools like Unity or RPGMaker, amazed by the power these tools gave me to create my own worlds an let people walk through them. Since then I never stopped learning, focusing my career in the creation of interactive environments and the videogame field.

Due to the abundance of straight lines and limited scope for creativity, I grew weary of studying architecture, prompting me to switch to digital sculpting, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Hi my names Ofir and I’m studying 3D animation for my second year at IAC in Tel Aviv. I’ve also studied painting and drawing at FRAME BY FRAME with Ben Ozeri. I’m currently working as a freelancer in 3D animation with Maya and Lighwave software. I specialize in texturing, lighting, render, modeling and animation.

Since I was a young I had a strong passion for films as-well for drawing. over time, drawing became a smaller part of my life, and I became more interested in the film industry and the process of creation which led me eventually to become familiar with the animation/VFX realm. Once I found out about it, I became obsessed and since then I dedicating my time to learn and improve in order to become a better 3D artist.

Software engineer in my day job for over 14 years with a huge passion for games. I initially wanted to get my artistic skills up to scratch rather than just coding to allow me to embark on my own games, animation and stories. Currently I am working hard towards trying to make this my full time job.

Since I was little I was always attracted to the creative field. I was drawing in class, taking pictures, working on After effect and Photoshop on an old rotten laptop and in the middle of high school I discovered that there were people behind the animation films thanks to Pixar interviews. And Now I have started 3D 3 years ago and i will never stop !!! I love to create worlds, characters and stories through illustration and animation from concept to final render !! In a stylized way !!!

Since I was 12 years old

I liked computers and I liked performing so I thought I would combine them by learning 3D animation but then blossomed into wanting to create 3D art. After graduating, I started using Substance Designer in my spare time, I've now developed a real passion for material creation. Achieved a first in BSc Computer Animation and VFX (Class of 2020) from Portsmouth university.

Hi! I'm always looking for new opportunities that can give me new skills and knowledge. I love to learn in all fields and especially in Game Environment, Lighting and FX. Do not hesitate to contact me, it will be a great pleasure to discuss with you and why not evolve professionally together. :)

I have been drawing and playing with art since I was a child. It has always been my passion with growth has changed from drawing to the world of 3d. I love to see how a world of objects and characters can be created from a cube or sphere.

It was an accident back in 2014-2015 and so my self learning journey began

I've always been involved with art since my youth taking class like drawing portrait and Oil painting, so when I started to see amazing artworks in sites like 3D Total and CG Society was my big call for this medium.

I always loved watching behind-the-scenes footage of movies and games, but the one that got me hooked was "Grounded: The Making of The Last of Us". Seeing how those breathtaking environments were created was and still is really inspiring. After high school, I attended Pixl Visn Media Arts Academy where I studied Modeling, Texturing, Lighting, Animation, Compositing, and Storyboarding. After that, I decided to specialize in Environment Art.

Life after school got boring really quick! I was 20 years old and sitting at home waiting for... well really anything! Then with the input of my friends and family, I committed to completing a degree in Digital Art. When I discovered the 3D entertainment industry, I knew this was exactly what I wanted to pursue. I grew hungry for more knowledge in becoming a professional concept artist.

My name is Alexander Tuma and I am an aspiring 3D/texture artist based in South Australia. From a young age, I was fascinated with digital art/design, wanting to know more about it and how it was created. At the start, I focused more on video editing and motion graphics more than anything else. However, I ended up coming across Autodesk Maya and wanted to know more, thus starting the plunge into visual effects and 3D.

I've been the art kid since I was in kindergarten, I love drawing everything around me. Moving on I became a self learn character concept artist until I realized there was too many competition around it and I need a job.. Which then I realized that 3D has more job offers and I actually enjoy it as well! especially in texturing. And from there I've always dream of working in big companies for big movies and I'll tell myself that one day, one day, my name will be at the end of Marvel end credits.
