1 | Introduction

Curse is a 6 months project with a team of 8 people of VFX class (from scratch)

In ths project I had to rig 2 character, and animate around 20 shots. To help, in this process i used autorig from the scool pipeline, and MoCap.

2 | Rig

First of all i had to create the rig, then clean the skinning of the body, create the rig of the defferent assets and finally create the facial rig with the different blendshapes created by the chara artist.

3 | Mocap

We shoot some MoCap, we give different assets to the MoCap studio before shooting. And the actor direction.

AQUA HEROES

1 | Introduction

Aqua Heroes is my second VFX 2 film, I had only one human character but, i had a mecha too.

2 | Rig

We had near 3 months to do this film, so i needed something quick in rig to animate easily the mecha. So i use a spring tech to create the wire that the mecha have in the back of his head. with this technic, i can not have a controler to animate the wire, but they move procedurally with the movement of his head.

3 | Animation

1 | Introduction

Tower is a special project, I did it at the same time than AQUA HEROES, but this time with the GameArt class.

In tower i have 3 character to rig and animate (and a little bonus), we wanted to use UE5 MetaHuman to get a nice and realist rig (face and body). Plus with MetaHuman, we can also get animation from mixamo or UE.

2 | Rig & Skin

To create thoses rigs, i used a blender auto rig, to get the same bone's names than in UE5.

Then I just clean the skin in 3dsMax.

With the character, I have a gun with a mechanical arm to rig. That is used by one of them (with a attache in his back).

3 | Import & retarget

Now that we have our rig, we can import them in UE5. This is an important part because we have to check if bones are well renamed, so we can use every animation that the UE mannequin have (and more).

4 | Animation

Now that we have ou MetaHuman rig into our character, we cant animate. But, we decided to use a phone to record a facial motion capture to get lipsync, that we can send to UE, And we are good to clean some facial animation.

We also used New3dge's MoCap suit for extra shots.

5 | Bonus : AgniFauna

This creature is a little bonus that doesn't appear in the cinematic or the game. But I rig it anyway, that was fun. Also for his head tentacle, i used the same method as in AQUA HEROES with the mecha.
