Round of applause for our sponsors

When I first heard of the study programme "Visual Effects & Immersive Media" at The Netherlands Film Academy, I realised I could actually change my hobby into a profession. Being a soon-to-be-graduate now, it is safe to say I am convinced I could not have made a better choice.

From the moment I started attending middle / high school (12~ years old) I already looked forward to attending the Mediacollege in Amsterdam to study Game Art, after that I decided that really what I wanted is to make (animated) films, so I applied to the Netherlands Film Academy and luckily made the cut, I'm currently in the second half of my second year.

I think it started when i saw the work of Ryoji Ikeda at Eye Film museum in Amsterdam and the vr film Carne y Arena.

I've been creative since I was a child, always drawing, writing stories, roleplaying with figurines rather than playing with make-up. My interests in movies and games was enormous. While attending a training course as a graphic designer I realised my interests in creating movies was bigger than designing corporate identities. After graduating I got into the Netherlands Film Academy in Amsterdam as an Immersive Media Visual Effects student and I knew this was the right place for me.

When my uncle showed me his VFX workplace, I knew I wanted to do what he did.

A long time ago when I was six years old I visited the animation studio in Disneyland Paris, after which I always told everyone I wanted to be a 'filmmaker'. Many years later I've found my calling in the film industry: becoming a pipeline TD.

After my first study as a photography student. After that study I came in contact with Cinema4D and I was hooked, starting to Animate objects and characters I made my self.

I always knew I wanted to do something creative. As a child I was always drawing or making movies with my friends. After high school I started studying film and editing, here I found out that this was the direction I wanted to take. I went to an open day at the dutch FIlm academy here in Amsterdam and when I ended up on the visual effects department I immediately knew that I wanted to continue with this. Because what could be better than being able to create your own fantasy worlds!

When I graduated high school I went to university where I followed a relatively 'creative' course. However, I soon realized it was too theoretical for me and I needed more creative freedom and space to practice new skills, instead of only researching them. I then applied for the Netherlands Film Academy where I felt I could fully fulfill my needs to practice new skills and create anything I wanted.

As a kid I started making my own stop motion videos. I wanted to make these videos even more interesting, so I decided to edit them in after effects. I found myself enjoying this process a lot more than creating the stop motion itself. The idea you can create stories digitally with only your imagination drives me.

I discovered pretty late that I wanted to work in the creative media and entertainment industry. In high school I decided I wanted to do something creative or with computers, but was not exactly sure what I wanted to do. So I went to the open day at The Netherlands Film Academy, with the idea to go study sound design. But that's when I discovered visual effects, and I was blown away by the possibilities. It was creative, technical, and you get to work in teams, so that's perfect.

The first time i realized I wanna word in the creative media and entertainment industry was 5 years ago when I worked allot in 3DMax. I loved creating and having no limits to what you can create. Than i started studying at the Netherlands Film Academy where I learned everything about Immersive media and visual effects. And started working with Houdini.

In middle school. I was 14 years old.

For me, getting into the visual effects industry was almost a practical choice. Someday I realized I got too old to actually do magic battles in the backyard. I had to find a way to justify this practices and "proove" that it wasn't childish behavior. As a consequence I started learning vfx to make my imaginations come to life. Soon I realized, there was no way back and this what I wanted to do.

I first realized I wanted to work in Visual Effects when I was studying Animation and Audio-visual Design. Slowly I did a transition into 3D, compositing and did Visual Effects internships at two different companies in The Netherlands. Creating models, textures and composites for cinematic and commercial films during that period I discovered I wanted to work in the creative media and entertainment industry.

I have always wanted to become an artist, as long as I can remember. Art is my passion and I want to share it

After I edited my first video.

after doeing fotography for years i went in to filmmaking

I picked up design at 12 and started my own business in March 2017. First, I started making websites and logos for friends, which slowly evolved into following After Effects tutorials online and learning the basics of Visual Effects. Since then, I've come a long way and done many projects. My main interests lie in compositing, FX and pipeline/TD.

When I saw movies as a child, I was always super intrigued. I wanted to know how to make impossible things.

I started making short films when I was 14 and I was editing them in After Effects, but when I was in my last year of high school I realised this might very well be the industry I want to live and breathe in.
