Round of applause for our sponsors

Bates Motel was my first big project, I gained tremendous knowledge working on this project such as planning, layout, lighting, foliage creation, material creation, and more.

With this scene, I wanted to better understand Unreal's Shader Network and create a way to retain the detail in my models. I also developed my skills of making materials using Substance Designer and practicing ZBrush sculpting with a high to low poly workflow.

Using multiple UV sets and layering tiling texturing through masks made in Substance Painter. I found that it was a quick and easy way to change the look of my models in engine and keep the resolution at a high quality.

The shader I created, was able to be used as a base material. If I needed to I could enable the use of a mask, with each (RGB) channel. I could then use basic parameters to change the color, roughness and metallic or if I needed to I could enable that layer to use a Material. That allowed me to use any tiling texture I made like rust or paint to be layered on top of the base material.

I also used edge decals with debuffer to hide sharp edges along my walls.

Here are the Substance Designer Materials I created for these scene.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my project!
