"Without Borders" explores the challenging journey that immigrants take in an effort to reach the USA. Without restrictions to limit their objectives, individuals travel great distances while overcoming countless dangers. Their journey is filled with challenging compromises and painful choices due to the complex web of national borders and the weight of leaving behind their prized possessions. Sadly, despite their enduring hope for a better future, many of them end up being stopped and sent back to their native countries.
“Terra” takes inspiration from the Earth, trying to capture the beauty found in its tones, ruptures and layers. The color palette of the collection takes cues from landscapes – ranging from dark browns to olive greens. The textures and patterns within the fabrics mimic the cracked surfaces of the earth, echoing the intricacies and organic forms that emerge from these natural ruptures. Asymmetry and layering are key design elements, symbolizing the fragmented nature of earth cracks. Silhouettes incorporate angular lines, uneven hemlines and pleats.
The aftermath of the tragedy that struck Mexico in 1985 witnessed the rise of a society that learned from its past and rose from the ashes, but its collective memory is deeply ingrained with the scars of that fateful day.
Denim is a durable fabric worn for generations, representing strength and resilience. Similarly, the people of Mexico have shown remarkable resilience in the face of natural disasters, including earthquakes.
