Let Them In - At the Mercy of the Room

Welcome to the world of my mind. Let Them In - At the Mercy of the Room is an environment that I created through the collection of inspired thoughts from my artistic endeavors as a photographer, writer, and now aspiring 3D artist. It took me quite a while to get to this point, but well worth the knowledge I gained.

This is my Capstone project for the Environment Art Bootcamp, under the supervision of Ryan Kingslien and John Waynic. I had a lot of fun creating this scene as I barely used any reference images and had complete control over creating what was in my imagination. I went through various iterations to reach this point. I have learned invaluable skills during this journey. My whole world has changed with this new path in environment art and I look forward to growing my skills in this field.

As a photographer my greatest difficulty was composing the scene. I had too many ideas, and I took the lighting too literally until I realized that my time in the film industry had shaped my knowledge of lighting. I was able to combine the two skills to establish a story through light and atmosphere. As a writer, however, it was difficult to tell the story of the scene without being obvious or with unnecessary details. The story told here is endless and the possibilities limited only by your imagination. I am grateful for everything I have been taught during my time in this course, the inspiration I gained from my extremely talented classmates to the great support I got from my teachers and mentors. To many more projects to come!

Learning to use the Sequencer in Unreal was so much fun for me. I love film and with Unreal''s incredible capabilities of realism, this project has sparked my interest in creating cinematic videos with my future projects.

Here I attempt to show the process of building this scene and how different it can be throughout each iteration when all you are working with is your own imagination and limited references. This project really pushed my artistic abilities, as I was in constant conflict with myself. In the end, however, I was able to find an equilibrium, and pool together my various talents as an artist to come to the final composition. What I learned through this process is the real scope of manipulation I am capable of in this medium. The possibilities with this medium are endless, and that excites me more than anything I have ever worked on.
