The Butcher is a short animated film created by students at the University of Texas at Dallas. I was the sole lighter on the project who helped create mood and helped tell the story through lighting.
I had the opportunity to light all shots on a short animated student film, "The Butcher"
My goal for this project was to capture the mood of the butcher's morning routine as a shop keeper and finds joy in making breakfast for his daughter.
During production I wanted to block out the lighting to understand how I would be able to shape the character and the environment. The goal that I aimed for was understand how the main key light of the sun would interact with the overhead lighting. Over the course, the interior changed from a green yellow tones to a softer blue to compliment the warm tones from the sun hitting the character on screen left.
