Water Wings
A therapeutic virtual reality experience created for hospice patients by students of SCAD's VR for Good program in a limited development time of 10 weeks.
A Therapeutic Virtual Reality Experience
Water Wings is a therapeutic Virtual Reality experience designed by students of the Savannah College of Art & Design's "VR for Good" program. Taking place in an undersea archipelago, participants can take a tour of a sunken civilization atop a glowing manta ray. As they traverse the sea's floor, magic runestones can be collected that will ultimately allow the manta ray to take to the sky and soar through the clouds.
Though the project is still being developed and refined, the product presented now was created in 10 weeks with the intent to be tested at a local Savannah hospice center at the end of the school year. The mechanics of the experience were created with a purposeful simplicity to target this demographic: patients who might not have much mobility or gaming experience. We hoped to bring patients a reprieve from anxiety and stress with an engaging, surprising, and beautiful experience.
