Hello, I am Martin Diethelm, Chilean artist! This is a selection of multiple personal illustrations and character design projects I've done in the past that reflect my visual interests. I hope you enjoy them!

Round of applause for our sponsors

The Dark Berserker

"A towering, dark protector of the secrets of an unknown, elder presence. Unparalleled in combat, impervious to pain and relentless on his assault. No mere human can stand against the Dark Berserker, for his power is all-crushing and the whispers around him fill the mind with dread and despair."

I've always been inspired by dark fantasy and sci-fi. Games like Warcraft, Dark Souls, Elden Ring and Doom speak to me on a personal level that I cannot truly describe. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted for this piece because of a very old thumbnail drawing I made once that needed more development. The Dark Berserker in particular is heavily inspired by an enemy from Doom Eternal: The Marauder.

For thumbnail design I wanted to show the Berserker either being looming in darkness or as a powerful opponent. Surrounded by an environment he would be protecting from intruders. Ancient cities or shrines belonging to elder entities.

The Arcanist

"A powerful master of occult arts, trading flesh for power. Arcanists sacrifice parts of their physical existence to manifest ethereal limbs in our dimension. Controlling these ghastly apparitions require extensive research on behalf of an Arcanist so that their entire beings are not consumed in the process of binding. Whether they use them for good or evil depends entirely on the wielder of such terrible magic, after all their opponents won't question their motives once they're erased from existence."

This character design project was mainly inspired by characters from fighting game: Skullgirls (Cerebella) and Anime series: One Punch Man (Fubuki) and Avatar (Ming-Hua). After adding a bit of my own spice into the mix, blending elements of dark magics, runes and communion with dark entities, the Arcanist is born!

One of the most notable features that I decided to drop were the chain and sleeves. To further develop the idea that she is actually missing both of her arms.

The Looming Dark Castle

A fun, little side project that came to fruition after experiencing the dark world of V-Rising. A game about playing as Vampires terrorizing hamlets by building looming castles around them. Blender was used for the most part of this project to set the whole scene

Quick precomp made by photobashing textures and quick brushstrokes.

Frogus, the Bartender

Sculpted from scratch in ZBrush and painted over in Photoshop. This character was made to expand the lore and characters from an IP of my own creation. The idea was having a bar-related creature. Preferably of a more water-based origin.

I wanted either a bartender, drunken patron or a gambler.

The result is one of my favorite characters i've ever created. It was a short, quick "made-on-a-whim" project. But came out with lots of personality and cartoonish charm. Would love an opportunity to further develop this character in the future.

Studies and other, small-scale projects

A massive thank you to my mentors in CGSpectrum: Tyler James, Humza Khan, Eric Wilkerson. Without their help and the help of my peers I wouldn't know where I would be standing at artistically speaking. I have grown so much and will continue to do so.

Thank you for viewing my submission!
