John Álvarez - Animation Demo Reel

Hello! I'm John, an animator from Tenerife. I studied at Animum, a 3D animation school from Malaga, and I'm proud of the work that I've done with them. I’m ready to take the next step! I'm looking to get an opportunity to start my career in the industry and be part of the animation community. I believe I have a lot to offer and would make a great asset.

This is my latest demo reel with some of my work, from my time at Animum and personal projects as well. I'm specially proud of the first shot. The audio is taken from the Birds of Prey movie, and from the moment I heard the clip I knew it would fit the character really well. I imagined a tough but quirky young girl that would have a playful personality.

Taking reference for this shot was key. I had to embody someone completely different from me, with all the challenges that entails. I went out of my comfort zone, and I really liked the result.

Her eyes were specially challenging, and I had to at one point animate them frame by frame. Also, her hands! They are quite big, and I had to find appealing poses, especially when they moved and rotated a lot.

The gargoyle scene was also a shot I had a lot of fun animating. Again, here planning and making sure I had clear, interesting shots was very important. This short animation helped me all throughout the process of animating the scene.
