2022 - 2023 3D Work

Paige Manley
by miiroren on 1 Jun 2023 for Rookie Awards 2023

Here is a collection of my works from fall 2022 and spring 2023! There were a lot of firsts for me this past year, including sculpting and texturing my first creatures and learning how to use Unreal. I have a long way to go, but I'm very happy with the progress I've made!

Forest Guardian

For this project, I created a forest guardian that displays similar traits to real-life forest animals, including hands like an echidna, antlers like an elk or a deer, a tail like a panther, and a leg structure like a goat. As a forest guardian, he protects the forest and all of the creatures that live within it.

Bane of Zariel

For our recent Dungeons & Dragons campaign, my friend created a homebrew/custom DND creature called "Bane of Zariel", and I worked with him to create an actual design for the creature. Bane is a creature specifically crafted to kill devils and eventually the DND archdevil Zariel by crudely combining various other pre-existing creatures. Because of this, the pieces of her body don't fit together, and the bones often break through her skin.

Marshmallow Wyvern

For this project, I took inspiration from the concept of being lost in a trance while looking into a campfire. I decided to go with the idea of a marshmallow melting into the fire, and as it melts, it turns into a dragon made of gooey marshmallows.

Starling Feathers

For this project, I wanted to familiarize myself with the process of creating realistic-looking feathers. I utilized the process of creating feather cards from scans of feathers from the US Fish & Wildlife Service's Feather Atlas, removing the background, and applying the desired colors. Each set of images is a different lighting setup based on a specific time of day, with the first being daytime, the second being nighttime, and the third being dusk.

Mid-century Modern Lotus Lamp

I found this gorgeous lamp for sale a few months ago, but it was a little out of my price range, so I thought I'd do the next best thing, which was to model it! I wanted to use this as an opportunity to practice recreating an object realistically in 3D, including the model and the textures.
