Illustrations and Concept Art
A collection of recent illustrations and concept art.
I painted this first piece for my capstone project (BFA Illustration) and for Atomhawk's Forgotten Creation contest.
I used a more painterly method to finalize the composition. This allowed me to paint more naturally and expressively, but it also meant that I had to be extra careful not to paint aimlessly.
When blending colors, I have one finger on the color-picker hotkey so I can control the colors more (also with a low-opacity brush).
After receiving feedback from several artists, I decided to simplify the background and replaced it with a calm sky to emphasize the character and mood (the last 2 images above show this change).
This piece is inspired by the Steel Valkyries skin line from League of Legends.
This time, I spent more time creating thumbnails to iterate on the different emotions to evoke.
The Harbinger of Winter is a piece I did for Envar Studio's Autumn challenge.
When I have a short time to finish an illustration, I usually just close my eyes and paint a vision of a narrative scene in my mind.
I'm including this hideous first sketch to show the journey :D. I had about 10 seconds to sketch out my idea before I had to do something else.
I took a picture of a tree outside and then found a blue morpho image online for reference.
'Nocturne: Monster Under the Bed' is a card game concept I made for one of my classes.
