Destiny

This is a 3D recreation of one my Favorite Artist's (Cheeb) Original Character.

I've always admired the way they represented their character's forms, so my main goal during this this project was to recreate it in 3D and find which qualities I can incorporate in my own personal projects going forward.

On starting the project, the main reference for the body's forms was a model by Mark Lambert. I took some screenshots of the various Views and used those as a guide. I also struggled a bit with the eyes but finally and worked on the basic blockout of the hair before going back to approach it.

I also knew the final pose was going to be a bit tricky for me, as I'm not much of a rigger, so at this stage, I decided to break the symmetry of the character, and started working on the final pose. I also changed the form of the breasts block out at this stage, as I realized that would work better when it comes to creating the clothing.

One aspect of this project, where I also struggled, was the final look of the hair. Luckily, I was able to get the assistance of Munorr, who assisted in creating the hair, using an addon they were developing for blender.

I then worked on the modelling of the clothes and final shading for the Her. All in, this was a really fun project to work on, and I was honestly surprised at the final results.

Nel (Death by Lemonade)

This is another fanart from a series created by Kyu-Bum-Lee. I've always enjoyed seeing the worlds created by Kyu, and Nel's design was Just so Fun I decided to make a 3D recreation of her.

sculpting folds aren't my strongest suit, so for this I had to make use of Zbrush, due to how forgiving it can be so I got to experiment freely till I found what worked, and the results were pleasant.

My Laptop isn't powerful enough to handle me making process video's so I've also included some process renders and turntable animations below.

The Pages for the Book was created using a modifier stack to make the changes easier.

Shark Lover

This project was inspired by a concept by Betty Souriguess. I was actually gathering references on pinterest for the above project (Nel), when I stumbled on the artwork and really liked how nicely it was laid out.

Working on this project, I realized how fun it was to use an actually detailed concept, which made the project a whole lot fun to work on.

The Blocking out stage of this project was the most fun I had, thanks to how comprehensive the reference was.

Working on the face, I realized I had never done a character this expressive yet, so I was a bit nervous approaching it. I also ended up not adding the headgear in the final piece cos I wanted to show the whole hair, including the bun that was present in the concept.

Earlier iterations also had her with a more realistic teeth but it didn't really work well with the overall stylization of the character (according to a twitter poll I did)

I've also Included a video showing the shapekey / blendshape expressions.

Dee Dee.

This is a project very dear to me. It's a birthday portrait I made for a friend.

Since I was kinda time bound for this, I had to reuse a base body from a previous sculpt and mainly worked on the head to capture her likeness.

for this project, I realized how helpful to have a blockout for the hair, even if it wasn't going to be the final style. It really helped to visualize the whole character than when working with a bald model.

When it comes to initial poly painting, I usually Favour zbrush due to how performant it is. The results are then baked into a texture in blender where I can do additional touch ups.

And now for the hair. I like to have a block out that closely matches what the final look is going be, that way, I have a ground truth I can match my strands grooming to.

Here's a video showing how the hair buns were made.

To finalize, is working on the final pose. rendering and composition.

Girl with Sword.

And finally, this is a project inspired by an artwork of Oscar Vega. This was a project that pushed me from having stuck to mainly busts, for a while, to finally work on a full body character and man! was it a complex and incredibly fulfilling project to work on.

I started with the head, and got that to a close to final stage, before I began work on the body's blockout and refining.

For creating the hair, I had to come up with a technique for creating spiral braids in blender, using planes created by the screw modifier

You can see an example below, I've also added a video showing how one of the strands hair clumps was created.

I like it when my characters have freckles but sometimes, I don't want to paint them, and finding freckle textures online was not cutting it, so I instead made a procedural freckles generator that can be controlled using a simple black and white texture. You can see me making use of it on the video below.

I can sometimes be incredibly lazy to sculpt and rather find a way to do some things procedurally. In this I came up with a non-destructive method for creating seams using the bevel modifier and custom profiles

and here is a short video showing some of the creation process / turn around.

Many Thanks for your time.

I would like to say a very thank you to the various artists whose works have been great inspiration for me and personally I'm looking forward to what the future holds as I also start working on my own characters and animations.

See You Next Time.
