Valentina Greggio
by valentain95 on 23 May 2023 for Rookie Awards 2023

This project is a tribute of the first episode (Episode IV) of Star Wars saga, A New Hope, and is my second collaboration with Giulia Greggio: she did C3PO and I did R2D2, after that we recreated scenes/environment concepts and therefore different renders. I encourage you to check her profile too here on The Rookies!

A New Hope

I always loved the first episode (Episode IV) of Star Wars saga, A New Hope, and for this year Rookies Awards I wanted to do something more elaborate but which I particularly cared about. The environment was taken from the scene in Tatooine, when C3PO and R2D2 arrive at Lars Moisture Farm, the home of Luke Skywalker and his uncles. The final render is made from the whole of that scene and various references of Tatooine, the farm, and the mood of the film, recreating the sandy ground, some props opting only for some, and obviously R2D2, while C3PO did it entirely Giulia Greggio, and I want to thank her so much for this collaboration, and I encourage you to go and see her profile on The Rookies to see her final render always inspired by the Star Wars film. Modeling, lighting, shading and rendering done in Maya, and textures done in Substance Painter.

After doing R2D2 and with Giulia's C3PO, making an environment was the most interesting thing to do and I hope to be able to make other environments based on the Star Wars world soon. If anyone is wondering, the title of this post comes from a quote from the movie, A New Hope, when the droids are intercepted and there are stormtroopers looking for them and of course with the help of the legendary Obiwan Kenobi, who uses force, they narrowly escape it. Therefore, may the force be with you!
