Portfolio 2023 - Olivia Grönlund

In August 2021 I started attending PlaygroundSquad, a Game Developer school in Sweden, without having any prior knowledge in the field of 3D art. Since then I have been developing my skills as a student, striving towards becoming a professional Character Artist in games. At the moment I'm in my final year of school and attending my internship at a game studio.

Even though this is just the beginning of my game development journey, I'm proud of all the progress I've made so far, and I'm proud to present to you 3 of my favorite projects so far:

―――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――

Sheeba - The Shy Robot

Sheeba was my entry for the Adobe Substance 3D - Robot Challenge. The main focus of the challenge was to create a cute robot using at least one of the Substance 3D software. My goal was to make the 3D model look as much as the original 2D concept as possible, while still adding my own touch.
I worked on this project in the evenings after school for about 3 weeks.

Based on the original artwork "Sheeba" by
Logan Preshaw.

Software used:
ZBrush (Sculpting + Modeling), Maya (Rigging, UV-mapping, Animation), Substance Painter (Baking + Texturing), Marmoset Toolbag (Rendering).

Assassin Mole-Rat

Assassin Mole-Rat was my first fully finished game-ready character. It was also the first time I interpreted another artists 2D concept into a 3D model. My goal was to make the model fully game-ready, while still making it look as much as the original 2D concept as possible.
It was made as 4 week long school project.

Based on the original artwork "Assassin Mole-Rat" by Justin Gerard.

Software used:
ZBrush (Sculpting), Maya (Modeling, Retopology, UV-mapping, Rigging + Animation), Substance Painter (Baking + Texturing), Marmoset Toolbag (Rendering).

The Bard

The Bard was my entry for the Dragon's Rise: The Forgotten Realms challenge at ArtStation. My goal was to make it fully game-ready, while keeping the look of the original 2D concept.
It was made as a 4 week long school project.

Based on the original artwork "Bard" by Vladimir Svakhin.

Software used:
ZBrush (Sculpting), Maya (Retopology, UV-mapping, Rigging + Animation), Substance Painter (Baking + Texturing), Marmoset Toolbag (Rendering).

Bonus:
Scour the Dark - Charger

As a bonus, I want to show one of the creatures I contributed to the 9 week game-project Scour the Dark.
My task was to create two game-ready enemy creatures (including concepts, rigging and animations), one of which being the Charger.
The model took about 4 weeks to complete including the animations.
You can view the full breakdown of the game-project here.

Software used:
Unreal Engine 5 (Game Engine), Photoshop (2D concepts), ZBrush (Sculpting), Maya (Retopology, UV-mapping, Rigging + Animation), Substance Painter (Baking + Texturing), Marmoset Toolbag (Rendering).
