Hi, I'm Ben, a 3D character artist finishing up my time at Gnomon School of VFX and animation. My Rookies submission this year is a collection of my most successful works. Thank you for taking an interest, I hope you enjoy what I have to offer!

God of War Heritage - Atreus

Based on a concept by Rodrigo Idalino, Atreus is the culmination of my first five terms at Gnomon School of Visual Effects, and the subject of my Characters for Games class taught by Damon Woods. This project was an extreme learning experience that ingrained the games character pipeline in me, and forced my to expand my approach to learn advanced techniques that yield an optimized but complex product.

Rendered in Unreal Engine 5.

The Fortune Teller

The Fortune Teller is my attempt to bring to life a mystical concept by Kyoung Hwan Kim. Under the supervision of Miguel Ortega, I was able to successfully execute the tedious task of sculpting and rendering aged skin. This project was also my first experience using XGen to create a high-quality groom asset.

Rendered in Unreal Engine 5.

The Knight

The Knight is another legacy project for me. I had modeled a suit of armor for my Digital Sculpting class with Louie Tucci, and the Dragon's Moonblade in Sukru Gilman's Props and Weapons for Games class, but had wanted to bring the two together for a long time. Under the supervision of Miguel Ortega, I welded the parts together, filling in the blanks and turning a set of props into a proper character.

Rendered in Unreal Engine 5.

Tomb of the Dwarven King

The Tomb of the Dwarven King was my project for Jon Arellano's Environment for Games class. For this project, I was tasked with creating an environment concept and then executing it in 3D. My time working on this project was extremely valuable, allowing me to learn important optimization techniques like modular kit creation and texturing with trim sheets and atlases.

Rendered in Unreal Engine 4.27

Thanks for looking!

My time at Gnomon has been awesome. I never thought I would get to this point with the 3D medium, and am extremely excited to continue producing 3D art. I'm glad I took the time to submit to the Rookies this year, as it has given me some time to reflect on my journey and now my art isn't totally sequestered to the maze of folders on my hard drive.

If you're interested in my work, feel free to follow me on artstation, Instagram, or LinkedIn. I plan to post a lot more, real soon. You can also reach out at [email protected]. Have a great day!
