“Matte Painting” is a term that we have borrowed from the world of cinema. It traditionally involved painting on different layers of glass to achieve photorealistic environments that were used as backgrounds in films. Nowadays, we refer to “Digital Matte Painting” and have replaced the glass layers and paint with tools like Photoshop, allowing us to create striking images in relatively little time, thanks to various techniques.

In the Matte Painting Course for ArchViz, we will learn to analyze an image for the elements that make it noteworthy, unique, and extraordinary, and we will learn how to create such an image using both 3D and 2D elements in post production placing emphasis on the overall process we use in ArchViz, demonstrating as accurately as possible what happens in a professional studio during this crucial stage of the workflow. We also cover various matte painting strategies that will be explored throughout the course learning new workflows and processes to adapt to the unique challenges of each project. Our aim is that our students acquire practical knowledge that allows them to unleash their creativity in ArchViz.
