Round of applause for our sponsors

I was in 9th grade and while I was exploring university expos, meeting students and researching careers, I struggled to find something I could pour my love for art in. Then one day the question hit me: "Somebody must make these video games!". And this question kick-started my journey towards my dream career in games. I am currently a Visual Artist student at BUAS (former NHTV) and work hard towards achieving my goals.

I've been doing art ever since I was very young so wanting to work in the creative industry was an easy decision. My background in traditional art, clay sculpting and stone carving have really helped me as an artist. Video games and art have played a big part of my life and I can't see myself doing anything else.

I got into 2d animating when I was logging into League of Legends and saw their animated illustrations and thought they were cool and I could try making one of those too. It was challenging at first but as I made more pieces it got easier and more enjoyable.

- When did you first realise you wanted to work in the creative media and entertainment industry? When I saw the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition - Behind the Scenes documentaries.

I realized I wanted to have a career as a game developer the first time I heard this was actually possible and not just a thing some lucky people get to do. This was right after graduating from electrical engineering.

I always had a great interest in games, even throughout studying agriculture and nursing. When my life came at a crossroad, I decided to give it my all and apply for Game Design at Breda University of Applied Science. At the study, I found the joy of working towards a common goal, together with other people from different disciplines. It is here, where I found my passion for level design, creating a composition for the player, using game mechanics and architecture.

I was in my first year of MBO here in the Netherlands and started studying video and production. I soon figured it wasn't quite what I expected so I switched to photography. Later that year I had the chance to pick a module that was named game art. After finishing the module I was sold. I loved the idea of creating worlds to get immersed in. So I switched to game art. I graduated and picked a follow up study here in Breda; NHTV BUAS Game Development. I'm currently in my 3th year - concept art.

When I figured out I had an obsession with the rad.

About four years ago I found out about universities that could teach me the ins and outs of creative media and game technologies. Since I already loved creating art of all sorts but never wanted to just go to art school this sounded great to me. Being able to work for movie or game companies turned out to be the goal I needed to pursue a career in creative media and I have not regretted my choice. I enjoy creating creatures and drawing animals most and hope to keep doing so in my future career.

I didn't thought about working in the industry when I started a Game Art education at the age of 18. I was simply enjoying drawing and making stories of characters. 3 years in the education I started to realise it's not about drawing, but to be part of a rapidly growing industry. My decision to be more committed to start a career in this industry was during an internship at Abbey Games in 2013. I've enjoyed the process with teamwork and creative minds a like so much, that I wish to grow more!

When I was a kid I loved playing games and I still do. Around the age of 12, I realized I wanted to make games myself. I had no idea but luckily there was an education that would teach me how. Since then I have been realizing what I wanted to do and what I wanted to create.

When my four-year-old brother said he wanted to be a game designer when he grew up, I thought 'Goddamn that's a good idea!'. I was only seven at the time, and it stuck with me since then. I had other plans for after high school, but I could not let go of this stolen dream of mine. I decided to see if there was a study in the Netherlands for game art. And voila! Now I am studying visual art for the game industry!

Back in high school while debating how I can combine my passion for art and games, I discovered Game Art.
