Uncover Hidden Talent: Hire the World’s Top New Digital Artists
Art has forever been my aspiration, but only relatively recently did I realise Concept Art was the route for me. I have a background in Fine Art and Illustration which provided me with strong foundations to begin studying at Leeds Arts University. Throughout my studies, I have developed my specialism in Environment design and 3D modelling.
Ever since I found out I could make a career out of my art at a young age, it's been my goal ever since! I always enjoyed immersing myself in fantastical worlds in games and film and appreciating the incredible details and love put into the design work. My goal is to contribute my own designs to projects and see them come to life!
I first realized I wanted to work in the industry when I was doing my art GCSEs and learning about the industry; during my classes I was one of the few students that had decided to try digital art for my final projects which helped propel my love for digital media. I had enjoyed playing games like warcraft 3 and Runescape, I have always admired the illustrations and character designs in all the games that I played which helped me decide on pursuing my goals working in the games industry.
I first realized when my high school art teacher told me I should consider illustration as a career option. I had been working on a storyboard for a short story and it had never really processed for me that it was something I could pursue, despite loving art since a young age. His encouragement helped me to realise that I could take this path.
I have always been a creative and had a passion for art, when I studied art in college I really fell in love with the idea of designing and world building. During my comic and concept course at Leeds arts university I fell in love with the idea of concept artwork and new that that I would be a concept artist.
Art was always something I found myself doing and enjoying, but it never felt like a plausible career choice. But when I started to find myself getting interested in the process behind the games I loved, I knew being a concept artist was what I wanted to pursue. Looking into the early art that would get passed down team to team was inspiring and has fueled my passion to fight for a job in the industry.
I've been studying "fine art" for four years, along with other subjects like photography and media, and I was halfway through my first years of the university's Fine Art programme when I first learned about Concept Art. I immediately knew I had to change my field of study and focus on character, vehicle, and environment design. In addition to studying 3D in Blender.
My interest in working in the creative media and entertainment industry really started whilst I was growing up reading comics ( from 70's/80's/90's/ 2000's by mainstream and indie publishers) and playing on the PS2. Over time I became interested in seeing both of these mediums developed, as it allowed for more stylistic and detailed models and artwork to be created. Similarly I hope to improve my skills in creating comic/ concept art, to where they're at an industry standard.
When I was in highschool I used to play a lot of video games, and I had grown up doing so. Along side this my love for the arts and literatre sterred me towards an interest for worldbuilding and concepting art. Dishonored 2's (2017) Artbook is something that really contextualised the kind of effort and time artists can take to create and care for their work and worldbuilding and it would be suffice to say that I was compelled to try and weave my own stories and create work that can inspire.
In primary school I was really impressed by a story trope where a protagonist unlocks a secret miraculous world. For example, in one story it was magical paintings which were in fact portals. That gave me a vague idea I wanted to be a creator who brings magic to the audience. As a teen, I was already confident about this desire, because I painted a lot of portraits and realized I wanted subjects of my art to be characters and to go beyond still images.
I have been interested in drawing and designing characters throughout my childhood and early adulthood and it is something that has stuck with me, so I decided to study comic & concept art at Leeds Arts University. Once I became more confident with my skills, I wanted to share my art with people and be able to create character and environment designs that make a person feel a certain way to show a narrative.
