Round of applause for our sponsors

Back in my first year in school I started discovering sculpting and loved it ever since. Visualizing and interpreting from a 2D concept is what I love to do the most.

At the beginning of COVID I had been playing a lot of Minecraft, when I got picked up by a professional Minecraft build team where I created maps that were sold on the Minecraft marketplace. After making a comfortable living for 2 years I decided to take the chance and stop my goal of becoming a historian/archeologist to study Game Art at HKU where I am currently studying.

A couple of years ago, one of my friends studied Game Art at MBO 4 level. After finishing my cooking degree, I started doing research and applied to study there as well and I have loved making game-related art ever since. My focus is 3D props and environments and I love the stylized and handpainted artstyles.

I have been reading books since I was about 7 starting with harry potter, I enjoyed imagining worlds that don't exist. I couldn't focus on school related work for the life of me except for anything that had to do with history, biology and physics. When I reached 14 or 15 years old we had to do this small internship for about a week when I discovered you can actually make games for a living and I could "work" for a week in a small company in Amsterdam. This set off my journey.

My first experiences with game design were in tabletop homebrew and games that let you design your own levels. LittleBigPlanet was pretty formative for me I think. Here I learned how much joy I get from designing experiences for others, namely seeing them experience it firsthand.

Since my childhood I’ve always been coming up with stories, and besides writing them I’ve always loved designing their characters, environments, storyboards and concepts the most, which is why concept art speaks to me so much!

After delving into a diverse assortment of games and other media during my teenage years I found a deep love for storytelling in a single image. There is just so much you can tell in a single glance.

After high school it was clear to me that I wanted to work with computers, I enrolled in a study for architecture but quickly found out that was not where my passion was. Not long into this year I found the study for digital art and was completely sold on the idea. During this architecture year I spent more time getting to know the software needed to create amazing 3D models and scenes. Now I'm glad to have made this switch as it ultimately lead me to meet awesome people and experiences.
