Uncover Hidden Talent: Hire the World’s Top New Digital Artists
A couple of years ago I decided to move to Liverpool with my partner. After years of working less than desirable jobs to pay for my travels around the world I felt it was time to go back to school. Game Design jumped out at me right away and I have been enjoying every minute of it. I love learning the many workflows and different software involved in creating art for games.
I had always wanted to learn about how games are developed and created, I enrolled into a College course at a Chester campus first learning about how to Model and Texture to a basic degree, this overall inspired me to want to take this to a higher level so going into University I learnt about the more technical side of games still mainly focusing on my Modelling skills, I highly enjoy creating Modular work and Assets focusing on this throughout my learning so far.
My digital art journey started in my early teenage years when I had my first drawing tablet at 13. Since then, I have been pushing myself to improve and develop my artistic skills, specifically with character design. During a gap year, I thought about what careers I could go into that would use this skill; this is when I came across game development. I realised that I could become a character artist and delve into the world of character modelling and bringing my drawings to life in 3D.
During lockdown I went into a deep rabbit hole of looking at different projects and techniques which deeply intrigued me, and the end result was me enrolling in my current university course for game design & concept art. It feels like something I can really put my all into and achieve more as an individual by doing something I truly enjoy.
I grew up playing games and always wanted more creative control over them. My family is also very artistic so I also grew up interested and practising different medias. I also see how civilisation is technologically advancing and this means more possibilities for the gaming industry. it is exciting to push the boundaries of realities especially in this dystopian nightmare we seem to have created.
I made the switch from accountancy and finance to games design recently and haven't looked back since. From a young age I've always loved immersive escapist worlds, enjoying creative writing and enthralled in (mostly fantasy) stories. I've been a games master for multiple table top role-playing games and it ignited my passion to make it a career.
I originally wanted to be a 2D or 3D Animator / Effects Artist but because of my love of games and through learning on my courses as well as my own personal experiences I have gained a love and appreciation for being introduced into the development of level design since I have loved playing games ever since I was young. after learning the craft in games design and how games work when I now play games I like to pick out intricate details from what I have learned through the production process.
Throughout my life, I have always played games as it is something I have enjoyed to do as it allowed me to escape from reality because of my autism, as I got older I started to wonder how games are made and that is when I made the decision to go to college to learn the skills on making games as I want to have my name in the credits of any games that I make in the future and to help the future generation also escape from reality.
I have always enjoyed expressing my creativity in a variety of different ways. However, it was when I started really delving into gaming that I became very interested into how a game works and how it's created, as I went through school I began to come up with my own ideas for different parts of games which led me to want to build up my skills so I could see these ideas realised.
I first realised that I wanted to work in the creative industries when applying for a course at college. At the age of 17 fresh out of my exams I knew I wanted to follow a creative digital route, so I applied to a university of the arts (London) game design and concept art course, this course is heavily focused on digital production and is allowing me to learn valuable technical and soft skills for said creative industries.
I first realised I wanted to work in creative industries when I accidently applied for Animation, but because there wasn't enough people on the course they moved me onto the game design course and on my first day it hit of this is what i want to do. I also i had interests of it before hand but never though to peruse it, but am glad I did.
At first it was just me downloading Blender at age 9 and making a cube move, from then I occasionally jump back in and out just messing about and not learning anything. A few years pass and I find out game development exists so at at age 11 to 13 I would try to follow Unity tutorials with no success. By then I had given up on Unity and went back to Blender again no success. then the time to pick what I would study in college came, so I chose game design and now I'm enjoying my second year.
I first realised I was interested in creative industries since High school, but I've always had an interested with anything in Games and design. My main focus is creating and learning different aspects of software, but I'm also wanting to learn different techniques with any form of media in art. As I've continued to develop and learn new skills in this industry I've become more interested and enthusiastic when it comes to game design and creative industries.
