My journey to creative digital media started in 2014, and I discovered 3D is fascinating. In 2016 I decided to take the significant step forward to learn 3D through interactive online courses (Animschool). It was an unforgettable year of experience, and I delved into the depth by journeying through many other online platforms.

In 2023 I was introduced to the world of 3D, and I haven't looked back since.

My path to animation started as soon as I began finger painting as a toddler. I never stopped making art and designs since then. Eventually, I took up acting and later film. I view animation as an extension of these childhood interests. I create performances whether they be on the stage or the camera, or made with a pencil or computer.

I realized it that I wanted to go towards being professional when I began to enjoy animating, and watched how I have changed throughout the three years. I wanted to make what I was animating better, and explore deeper into this career.

I was thinking about What kind of life do I want to live? The art! I think back to the real interest from childhood, know part of industry information, I choose 3d art at game industry, starting from the beginning of 2020, I started a process of self-study. Almost two years of self-study made me very fulfilled, it made me determined to change my career and become a professional 3D artist.

I think I realised when I was 12 when I made my first 3D intro in Blender, moving 3D words, moving camera. ever since then, I have been hooked into the visual effects entertainment industry.

Creating realistic looking sculpts and models is my favourite way to spend time. I love noticing all the important details and modelling these to give my work a sense of story and personality. I have strong technical skills, including proficiency in Maya, Zbrush, and the Adobe Suite. I have also been learning Mari and Houdini. I spend a lot of my spare time 3D modelling and enjoy upskilling in the relevant pieces of software.

Around the age of 19 was when I found out about the entertainment industry and knew it was the place I want to be in. This was also around the time I found my passion for background and environment art and I haven’t stopped creating since.

Growing up in New Zealand, I was instantly in love with the work of Weta Workshop/Digital on the Lord of the Rings films. Aside from the story, I was always intrigued by how the films were made - whether it was the CGI elements, sculpting, or prop-making. I decided late 2017 to finally pursue the childhood dream of mine to creatively work in the film industry and I just recently finished my degree in Creative Media Production - majoring in VFX & Animation.

After I found out as a kid that producing cool animated films and TV shows was a job that existed!

I have always been really into drawing characters, and I discovered my passion for 3D character and environment modelling when I was in my second year of University.

2014 was the first time when I realized I should alter my art direction from architect/designer to film & games industry. I got my wacom drawing tablet that time, start practicing digital painting. In 2017 I came to New Zealand to learn more about 3D, animation and VFX world. I am focusing more to 3D modelling and texturing from 2021.

I grew up with parents who both pursued degrees in Screen Arts, so I’ve been aware of the creative industry for almost as long as I’ve known how to hold a pencil. I didn’t start to seriously consider art as a career until I attended a recreational art school in 3rd Grade. From then on, I’ve always tried to find a way to include artistry in my work; ideally being able to combine it with neuroscience in some way.

I have been doing storyboard comics when I was really young and have always wanted to tell my own stories. I gained a Bachelor Degree of Animation (Hons) at YOOBEE collage of creative innovation over a four year period, where I honed my skills as an artist. This gave me a greater appreciation of the creative industry and the potential to reach a larger audience with my art.

As far as I can remember as a small kid. Seen films, animations and Anime with mind-blowing VFX. Video Games are also a big inspiration for me to choose a career in the creative industry. I went to my first school at Yoobee for my Diploma in Animation. Next I got my degree from Media Design School with a Bachelor of Art and Design (3D Animation and Visual Effects). I am currently researching, creating assets and getting ideas for my own independent 3D animated series or film produced by myself.

From the beginning of high school, I had a lot of interest in digital technology and I immediately chose digital art as one of my classes, I was mainly interested in how graphics engines worked and how I could create in them, I was especially interested in modeling software such as blender and I watched a lot of blender tutorials even though I had no idea (or hardware) to make anything.

I first realized my passion for the creative field at a young age. Participating in poetry slams and song writing competitions during primary school ignited my love for storytelling and visual expression. These early experiences inspired me to pursue a career in the creative industry.

I have worked in the art industry since 2001 as a principal ballet dancer with best companies in the world. I have retired and now I am just deviating to another type of art form.

When I was small, maybe after I watched Dragonheart or Eragon for the first time. I've always wanted to work creatively it's fun making up new designs for characters be it humans or creatures.

I am Matthew du Plessis, and I am currently busy doing my Bachelor of Art and Design (3D Animation and Visual Effects) degree at Media Design School in new zealand, Auckland. Starting of as drawing traditional portraits and then studying 3d, and that’s when I realized, that I really want to create 3d, with skills and knowledge, then I am able to put the ideas and bring the inspirations to life, and create astonishing 3D Animations, Models, Texturing and VFX with amazing realism.

I started my career as a set painter in Berlin, Germany in 2012. As life goes, I changed my professional focus, studying environmental informatics and worked several years for the German government as an IT project manager. But deep inside my heart, I wasn’t excited about what I was doing. I missed the creativity! I never gave up on my dream and from one moment to another, I made the best decision of my life. 2022 I quickly turned my life upside down, in New Zealand, to study 3D Animation!

From the very beginning, I knew I wanted to work on animation. When I saw a 2D character coming to life on screen for the first time, I started to draw, which pushed me to pursue animation.

Growing up I have always adored storytelling, and knew that I wanted to be able to share the magical sensation hearing a good story gives me, with the world. I was fifteen when I first heard the term 'concept designer', and while before I had been flip flopping between wanting to pursue any number of conceptual roles, I knew that was something I wanted to set my sights on.
