Uncover Hidden Talent: Hire the World’s Top New Digital Artists
I realised quite late that I wanted to work in the creative industry because I was initially going to apply to other universities such as Oxford, Durham and UCL for computer science or philosophy. But a few days before the UCAS deadline I realised that my whole life I had been creatively driven and art was a huge part of me. So with a nudge from my Dad, my extensive watch time of corridor crew and work on the infamous donut project I hit click on my submission to Bournemouth Uni for VFX.
I started with wanting to express my creative side through artistic media, and since I was very much a computer guy I sided towards 3D modelling. I started with Blender as most do and created lots of stylised scenes. I loved this as I could express emotion and create moods within 3D environments. This was a hobby to start but soon after I found out the opportunity to continue this path professionally. I eventually went to University studying VFX and slid into the Compositing department.
I started learning game development as a hobby in high school, while also playing around with 3D software trying to understand how the art pipeline works. As the years advanced, these hobbies turned into my passion, and I started joining local communities, in order to meet and interact with more people in this field. When I discovered Technical Art, I decided to pursue it as a specialization, allowing me to combine both my technical and creative sides.
Since I was a youngster I have always liked to watch films, and play video games, and during secondary school I always had to choose to prioritise academic subjects at the expense of creative subjects, so when choices came about, I loved to choose the more creative subjects to let me show a new side of education and learning, which ultimately lead me to the NCCA at BU, where my passion was created.
I have always been interested in working with photography or short clips, I used to capture and edit them in my free time when I was in high school. Then I moved to UK to study Computer Visualisation and Animation there. It literally got me from the very first lesson, when academic showed us previous third years projects and announced the assignment. Since then, I am learning CGi and VFX on my own along with the course. From an interesting subject to me, it developed to full time hobby.
At school I enjoyed all forms of art and technology- I could get lost in my drawings and creations and before I knew it the day was over! I knew then I wanted to work in the creative media and entertainment industry. While studying Design for Film & Television at uni, I realised I most enjoy working on detailed 3-dimensional designs with the computer being my most valued tool. In 2018 I was accepted onto a Masters Course in 3D Computer Animation and have been developing my skills ever since.
Nothing ever seemed more exciting to me than the idea of bringing your abstract thoughts to life on a big screen. Since a young age, I have been absorbed in the creative fields, spanning photography, drawing, traditional painting, film, and cinematic music. I have always enjoyed being challenged on a practical and intellectual level, and the field of Visual Effects certainly offers challenges every day. No other industry lets me combine and learn as many subjects at the same time.
At first, I started working with traditional clay at around the age of 14. From there, as I kept improving my work with traditional sculpting, I slowly got into 3D modeling in Zbrush and Blender, translating my sculpting experience into the digital medium at around 17 years old. At that point, I chose to continue working digitally by enrolling in a university, concentrating on digital art.
