Round of applause for our sponsors

From a very early age, I really wanted to be in this profession to help create games.

throughout high school i developed a passion for art and i realised i wanted to work somewhere that would make it possible for me to be creative in my day to day life. After studying Creative Media and Game Technologies for 1,5 years, i had gotten a taste of all disciplines within game art and realised i liked doing game animation most of all.

I love to create experiences for people. This could be done by video games, but also with short films. I want to tell stories that make people think.

I have always wanted to do something with art

- When did you first realise you wanted to work in the creative media and entertainment industry? When I saw the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition - Behind the Scenes documentaries.

I realized I wanted to have a career as a game developer the first time I heard this was actually possible and not just a thing some lucky people get to do. This was right after graduating from electrical engineering.

I once started just playing around in the creation kit from Bethesda. I always talked about how cool it would be to create games and when I found out about BUAS I had to try it. So I applied with the work I did in the creation kit.. And I got rejected. This didn't stop me though, I worked hard on my skills and the year after I applied again, this time I was accepted!

After I was done with highschool I decided I wanted to get in to a creative education (MBO at the Grafische Lyceum Rotterdam) with a specialization of game-art, which is what I did. I expected the combination of education and a hobby to be a lot of fun, which it turned out to be because now I'm following a higher education with the same specialization and enjoying it a lot!

When I first started playing Dungeons and Dragons, I always felt like it was lacking something. Not on the design standpoint, mind you, but on the side of supporting DMs and Players with inventing new stories, rather than just following old ones. That's when I started getting into Homebrew content, which slowly evolved into making my own systems, and then at some point I realised - Hey, why not make this my career?

Growing up I watched my father and brother fiddle with shaders, textures and light computation settings in order to get the best possible architectural visualizations. Which is how my interest in computer-generated graphics and technology as a whole started. Combine that with my general love for video games, and the idea of me pursuing a career in game development came naturally

I always had a great interest in games, even throughout studying agriculture and nursing. When my life came at a crossroad, I decided to give it my all and apply for Game Design at Breda University of Applied Science. At the study, I found the joy of working towards a common goal, together with other people from different disciplines. It is here, where I found my passion for level design, creating a composition for the player, using game mechanics and architecture.

I was in my first year of MBO here in the Netherlands and started studying video and production. I soon figured it wasn't quite what I expected so I switched to photography. Later that year I had the chance to pick a module that was named game art. After finishing the module I was sold. I loved the idea of creating worlds to get immersed in. So I switched to game art. I graduated and picked a follow up study here in Breda; NHTV BUAS Game Development. I'm currently in my 3th year - concept art.

When I figured out I had an obsession with the rad.

About four years ago I found out about universities that could teach me the ins and outs of creative media and game technologies. Since I already loved creating art of all sorts but never wanted to just go to art school this sounded great to me. Being able to work for movie or game companies turned out to be the goal I needed to pursue a career in creative media and I have not regretted my choice. I enjoy creating creatures and drawing animals most and hope to keep doing so in my future career.

I didn't thought about working in the industry when I started a Game Art education at the age of 18. I was simply enjoying drawing and making stories of characters. 3 years in the education I started to realise it's not about drawing, but to be part of a rapidly growing industry. My decision to be more committed to start a career in this industry was during an internship at Abbey Games in 2013. I've enjoyed the process with teamwork and creative minds a like so much, that I wish to grow more!

When I was a kid I loved playing games and I still do. Around the age of 12, I realized I wanted to make games myself. I had no idea but luckily there was an education that would teach me how. Since then I have been realizing what I wanted to do and what I wanted to create.

When my four-year-old brother said he wanted to be a game designer when he grew up, I thought 'Goddamn that's a good idea!'. I was only seven at the time, and it stuck with me since then. I had other plans for after high school, but I could not let go of this stolen dream of mine. I decided to see if there was a study in the Netherlands for game art. And voila! Now I am studying visual art for the game industry!
