Forgotten Eddie

This is my first experience with Substance and thought Eddie was the perfect way to begin! My main goal throughout this challenge was to become familiar with Substance and explore its possibilities.

I began by experimenting and developing various materials, learning the various techniques used to create more interesting interaction between materials.

I focused my attention on the main body first and through experimentation my aim was to develop a base for the design. Whilst adding various imperfections and materials I began to question what story I wanted to tell. The more imperfections and adjustments I added the further I began to develop a history and character for Eddie.

Whilst experimenting I developed the concept that Eddie was a beloved, but, old and forgotten children's toy. I wanted to simulate the damage and worn out marks that come from aging; and from years of being a well loved toy, having been on many childhood adventures. Using this narrative meant each mark tells its own story and allowed space to freely experiment with all the tools available.

In the next stage I aim to refine the design and incorporate more elements to further enhance the storytelling of Eddie.
