'A Bug's Strife' is a 3D fighting game created for a group project at JMC Academy. It is a PC game played using Xbox controllers. A zip file of the built game can be downloaded from this link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1t2c9CxO6QB7mq6zHaPIsAM2JJP8GFrWc

Here is a short introduction to 'A Bug's Strife'. A 3D fighting game in which a variety of creepy crawlies duke it out in the world's smallest arenas. The game was created for a university group assignment and is available for download at this link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1t2c9CxO6QB7mq6zHaPIsAM2JJP8GFrWc

There are four creepy crawlies players can select. The same bug can be selected by more than one player.

The Levels

Picnic

The picnic adds an element of chaos to gameplay. The environment is crowded with food. Stand on it for too long and you will be taken out by a flyswat. The camera follows a random path over the map, this changes each time the game is played.

Bin

The bin level is just a simple area where you are free to get used to fighting without having to contend with the environment.

Garden

The garden was the first level we created. It has the most polish and the most hazards to watch out for. Fighting takes place in a quadrant of a large circle. The camera rotates around the ring, introducing players to different terrain. It requires platforming on the lilypads over the pond, avoiding falling raindrops, and the ray of light under the magnifying glass. There is also mud, which reduces speed, for the players to contend with after the rain.

One detail I find satisfying is the rigging of the clovers and lilies. Spring joints allow them to rustle and bounce in response to contact from bugs.

BBQ

The BBQ level has players battle on top of a hot grill. The heat gets turned up periodically, forcing players to take refuge on top of food. The order the food is added and removed from the BBQ is random so it is unpredictable each playthrough. This level has a sense of urgency as once the food is removed, there is nowhere to hide.

We created all the assets for the game ourselves. From concept art to modeling, texturing, rigging, animating, and programming.

Concept art for the bugs.
