My name is Carmen Medina. Just graduated from Animum Creativity Advanced School. I'm glad to show you my entry for the Rookies 2020 contest. A personal project in which I go further my knowledge in order to improve my artistic skills.

I wanted to share the project I've been working these weeks for the Rookies 2020.  Just graduated from Animum 3D School, Miguel, from "The Road to El Dorado" is my very first personal project. This character is property of Dreamworks Animations.

Sculpted in Zbrush, texturized in Substance Painter and rendered in Maya with some touchups in Photoshop.

I've always admired the 2d animation movies and how clean shapes and lines are. With this project, I tried to recreate Miguel in a 3D style but manteining the simplicity the movie has.

All the sculpting was done in Zbrush, as I wanted to go deeper into the program and get used to creating characters from spheres. I feel like this workflow is more artistic and fits better for me as I can easily see shapes and proportions.

The most challenging task at this project was doing hair. I only tried Xgen once and was nothing compared to the task I had in front of me. So, after may hours learning how to approach to the final results I setted up different descriptions for every part of the hair and I used guides and some expressions to get the result above. It was such a hard work but very satysfing.

There are still things I would like to change and polish, because as you all know, a project is never finished but it's time to put an end to it and start a new one. This has been such and experience and I can't wait to continue growing!
