This is a collection of various Storyboards, Animatics and 2D Animation work I've done over the first half of this year. There is a mix of stand-alone work and project work.

Broken Blade

Broken Blade is a 5 minute animatic pitch about a girl named Maeda, created by Alex Smith.  I was brought on board on his projects to help with storyboards, animatics and eventually animations.

When working on Broken Blade I would start by sending in my first pass of the storyboards and let it go through a round of revision and drawovers by Alex Smith before it was returned to me and I would address his revisions, add/remove scenes and drawings and refine approved shots.

Walk cycles and smaller animation clips

This is a collection of various walk cycles and small animations I have done as university assignments for skill aquisition.

Silly Walk Cycle - This was a walk cycle I did for my 2D Animation class as university work. My goal with this walk cycle was to create a goofy walk cycle that would still look convincing.

The Flag - This was an exercise in inbetweening I did a few weeks ago for an assignment. We were supplied keys and breakdowns by Greg Holfeld and we had to inbetween them according to his timing charts and breakdowns.

Reworked walk cycle - After animating for a year I revisited my first walk cycle that I did at the start of picking up animating.  I used my old assignment as an opportunity to fix flaws in my old walk cycle that I didn't know how to fix back then and get it up to par with my current animation work.

A Sweet Reminder

Mourning the loss of her mother, Claire is baking one of her old recipes. Upon noticing her daughter watching, she lets her join, getting reminded of herself at that age baking with her mother. They share the moment together, letting Claire focus on the good times they had together instead of letting the grief settle in.

A Sweet Reminder was a storyboard which I took into a rough animatic for my University assignment. Drama and subtlety in storyboarding and animation was something I was quite unfamiliar with, and this project was important for me to explore how much I could push and pull to evoke strong emotions for the viewer.

While working on A Sweet Reminder I had a rough idea of how I wanted the characters and scene to look. I roughed out the layout in Blender to make sure my characters kept a consistent size and height in comparison to their environment. I found that I later got too relient on my scene and stepped away from it to include more interesting camera angles.

My biggest struggle with doing a drama board was to make sure scenes were long enough for the viewer to truly take in the moment and to keep Claire warm and welcoming while still showing signs of her grief. There were big changes from my first pass as Claire seemed almost cold and conflicted towards her daughter, which was not the intent.

As a result, I have an animatic which became qutie a bit longer than my original concept, but one that reads better and elaborates more on details and subtleties of the world that was sorely neeeded in the first pass.
