Hi! I'm Carys. This is an environment that I made for a second years university project. This Feudal Japan environment has been created with a modular mindset. Although it was originally rendered as a cinematic video, the environment has been developed with an optimised, modular workflow for the potential to be a playable video game environment. This project was a fun way to develop and practice my environment skills, explore a new workflow and grow familiar with UE4.

This environment was made using 3Ds Max, Zbrush, Substance Painter, Unreal Engine 4, Speedtree and Quixel Mixer/Quixel Megascans library. Mixer/Megascans was used for the majority of the foliage, textures and a select few 3D assets. The outside terrain was sculpted using the auto landscaping master material (Hughes, 2019) for height based texturing. The project, as a whole, took roughly 3 1/2 months from concept to final renders.
