The Memories of Reve Project / Other projects

Héléna Frehse
by BlueValleys on 25 May 2024 for Rookie Awards 2024

Hi dear reader, I'm Helena, a 23 years old student in Concept Art & Illustration. I'm based in France, near from Strasbourg. You may now enter into my world, my "crazy" world would I say. You'll see some projects that I made, but also work-in-progress project like The Memories of Reve created for The Rookies.

Bienvenue

I’m happy to introduce you to my entry for the rookies. Here are some of my artworks I did during my years in school, and some personal creations.

I discovered the world of art by doing books cover for free. It was a great revelation for me, and I decided to study drawing in 2021. I really started drawing when I was in that school.
What I appreciate the most is to make my ideas take form ; seeing a character come to life with expressions, with colours is so grateful for me.

I wish that in my future I will publish my own comic books, to transport readers to other worlds.

"The Memories of Reve"

A work-in-progress project

I decided to start presenting my projects with this one. This project in particular reflects my start in the quest for stylization. I began to determine my own style through it and continue to experiment every day.

The Memories of Reve tells the story of a Goddess of Dreams, named Reve, who loses her memory when she travels to the mortal realm to escape a threat. But in doing so, dreams disappear and humans are left with only nightmares in their sleep.

Returning to Creation, the realm of the gods, she must rebuild her own realm, fractured after her departure, to restore balance to the dreamer's sleep, but also battle against herself to regain her memory.

Reve

Goddess of dreams

Guaraman

Reve's assistant

Neant

God of nightmares

Neant is the god of nightmares, created by Reve with the stone of divinity. Before she left, they worked hand by hand to make the balance between good and bad. But when Reve disappeared, he also lost his memories and has been broken (it’s the main reason he has lesions all over his body).

On her return, he feels an unexplained spiritual attraction to her and constantly feels the need to have her with him. So he sets out on a quest to discover what it is that binds him to her, even if it means falling into that echoing feeling of love.

In the Emperor's shadows

A barbarian project

In my school year I created an entire project about the barbarians. I had to create a new civilisation mixing cultural aspects from the Viking, Celtic, Qin and Han eras. It was a very interesting assignment searching for historical references, learning about civilisations, and creating.

Here I present to you the Erebur and Alora civilisations, conflicting for years.
I first worked on the clothes and weapons before doing the characters.
It was a fun part, looking at how ancient civilisations dressed themselves, and what their weapons were made of.

I made variations of my main characters and it was really interesting to do as I mixed the style I worked on with a more realistic style.

Marine the mermaid

A retake drawing

I decided a few days ago to rework a mermaid drawing from 2023, with the idea of using new techniques of rendering. I always got the feeling of having an unfinished artwork and wanted to search for new techniques to improve my skills and learn more. I started learning a colour technique to create more realistic drawing and tried it with my mermaid.

This artwork is one of my latest for now.
