Wet street
Here is my master's final project, "Wet Street," created in Maya. It's inspired by European streets during rainy weather.
My name is Laura Ailín Berdós, I am a student at Lightbox Academy in Madrid, Spain. I started this project with the main goal of creating a realistic scenario inspired by the typical streets of a European villages for my master's thesis. It all began by searching for references of outdoor scenes. I was drawn to them and at the same time, these types of streets where tranquility is felt after a rainy day gave me much peace. Finally, I managed to find an image that encapsulates all of this. From there, I got down to work.
Here's my moodboard for you all to enjoy
The software used were:
-Autodesk Maya for modeling and lighting.
-Photoshop and Substance 3D Painter for texturing.
-Redshift for rendering.
-DaVinci Resolve for assembling the render passes.
It was a race against the clock as I had to deliver the project to be evaluated by my professor. For the realization of "Wet Street," I used Maya, rendering with Redshift, which was a challenge for me as I hadn't used this rendering engine extensively before. I also delved into Substance Painter for the textures, mainly for the buildings. The planning was somewhat chaotic as I was working on several projects at once, but I focused on this one to work smart, fast and with the best possible quality within the time I had left.
I managed to improve my skills in modeling, texturing, and lighting. I disliked the idea of the final image being identical to the reference, so I added small details and my original assets, such as the effect of the church fading into the mist. This was a great opportunity to fight for my objectives and not give it up. A few months ago, I couldn't have imagined achieving these results in such a short time, but with perseverance and dedication, great achievements are possible.

To conclude, I could say that doing a project like this can be a very tiring process, but it is very rewarding to see the progress after the sacrifice and weeks of hard work.
