The Pupal Seraphim
Here is the 3D modeling project I had done during my third year of study at ESMA based on "The Pupal Seraphim" concept of Mike Franchina.
"The Pupal Seraphim" 3D Modeling project
I'd like to present my 3D modeling project carried out during my third year of study at ESMA. I wanted to give myself the challenge of a monstrous creature and familiarize myself with digital sculpting. The original concept came from an illustration called "The Pupal Seraphim" by artist Mike Franchina. I chose this creature for its insectoid appearance and repetitive patterns, reminding me a little of Giger's creatures, whose work I admire.
Posing
I posed this creature in a background created from a Zbrush sculpt and procedural shaders on Renderman. I wanted the set to be oppressive and sickening to look at. I took the idea of this monster's nest of eggs as a working basis.
Sculpting
To get this result I first sculpted a rough proxy without details to get the general shape, which I then imported into maya to create a retopology suitable for animation before exporting this version back into Zbrush to sculpt the details.
Texturing
Then I exported my displacement maps and used Mari for albedo painting based on curvature and to paint specular maps and masks, which I then mixed into renderman.
