INTERIOR DESIGN 5: CO-WORKING SPACE DESIGN

INTERLOCKING OF IRREGULAR RINGS

Irregular rings typically refer to non-uniform roundness, size and height of the ring observed from the top view and side view. These rings interlocking each other and often exhibit uneven boundaries or irregularities in their interlocking structure. Aside from observing the unique pattern create by the interlocking rings, it also represent my client's name 'Co-labs' , which is the meaning of collaboration.

When a bunch of rings interlocking each other, it means that employee coming from different place and have different background, start collaborating with each other, through interaction, they might get to know more talented people from their interacting partner, just like interlocking rings, connect more than one ring at the same time.

The unique interlocking rings of pattern are inspiration used in the form of furniture, ceiling and wall design and also layout space design. Through the inspiration of interlocking rings propose to the overall space of co-working, workers will get stimulate to think out of the box and inspire infinite possibilities.

PROJECT BRIEF

Designing a co-working space for Co-labs, at APW Bangsar , 29, Jalan Riong, Bangsar, 59100 Kuala Lumpur.

This project aims to cultivate a co-working environment that seamlessly blends stimulation and serenity, promoting productivity and creativity among its occupants. Through a modern contemporary interior approach, innovative spatial arrangements, and the integration of biophilic elements, we seek to create a space that inspires and rejuvenates. By embracing simplicity, introducing imaginative shapes in both layout and furniture, and infusing natural elements, we aim to encourage out-of-the-box thinking and enhanced focus among workers. This refined balance of design elements fosters an atmosphere conducive to collaboration, innovation, and personal well-being.

Step into the serene beauty of our Tropicana Villa, where lush landscapes and breathtaking sunsets merge to create an enchanting oasis. Picture-perfect palm trees sway gently in the balmy breeze, their verdant fronds casting dancing shadows across the exterior. Vibrant tropical flowers bloom in a vibrant of colors, adding bursts of natural brilliance to the verdant surroundings. As the sun dips below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the tranquil waters, the sky comes alive with hues of orange & yellow, painting a mesmerizing tableau against the backdrop of our luxurious villa. Welcome to a world where every moment is infused with the magic of tropical paradise.

RECEPTION AREA

The reception desk, adorned with living moss and wood accents, sets a serene tone. Surrounded by lush plant walls and identical tiffany blue of client's brand color that represent soothing water features, this space welcomes you to a sanctuary where nature and design blend seamlessly.

A versatile venue designed for creativity and connection. With flexible seating, modern amenities, and natural accents, it's the perfect setting for networking events, workshops, and more.

MOTHERING SUITE

A peaceful retreat for working parents and their babies. With private nursing areas and soothing colors, this nurturing oasis fosters bonding and support. 

LOUNGE AREA

A cozy retreat for relaxation and collaboration. With plush seating, natural accents, and ample natural light, it's the perfect spot for informal meetings or unwinding after a productive day.

PANTRY AREA

A welcoming hub for nourishment and connection. With modern amenities, natural accents, and communal tables, it's the perfect spot for grabbing a snack, enjoying a coffee, or chatting with colleagues.

TREE OF LIFE - OUTDOOR LANDSCAPE 

Nestled within our outdoor landscape, this iconic tree offers shade and solace, inviting reflection and conversation. Its presence symbolizes unity and strength, reminding us of our interconnectedness with nature and each other.

Gather beneath its branches for meetings, moments of contemplation, or shared celebrations. The Tree of Life is a beacon of inspiration, fostering community and harmony in our co-working space.

MEETING ROOM

Large windows allow natural light to flood the room, illuminating the space, providing views of the surrounding greenery and also cast unique shadow with the help of custom designed facade. Comfortable seating arrangements and versatile furniture arrangements accommodate a variety of meeting formats, from intimate discussions to larger presentations. 

FLEXIBLE WORKSPACE

A modern interpretation of the ring design that promotes focus and productivity. Step into a sleek and intimate environment where each pod is inspired by the circular form of the ring. Enclosed within curved partitions, these pods offer a sense of privacy while still maintaining a connection to the surrounding workspace.

The design of the working pods incorporates natural materials and textures, such as wood and fabric, to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Soft lighting and ergonomic seating enhance comfort, while integrated technology allows for seamless connectivity and collaboration.

HALL AREA

A dynamic hub for creativity and collaboration. With its modern design, comfortable seating, and wood accents, this space invites members to gather, exchange ideas, and build connections. Soft lighting fills the room, creating an uplifting atmosphere for meetings, presentations, and networking events.

COMBINATION: RYTHM OF REPETITION & GENTLE FREE FLOW

The unique combination of merging 2 kinds of lines, which are repetition of vertical lines & gentle free-flowing lines. The repetition of vertical lines symbolize rules & regulation, set by the sultan & government to maintain peace of the Malaysia. The gentle free-flow symbolize freedom, in terms of right to act, speak, religion, as Malaysia practice parliamentary democracy. The combination symbolize peace & harmony of the East & West Malaysia.

The combination of repetition & gentle free-flow creates a unique free pattern and does not restrict by boxes, try roll our eyes by following the gentle free-flow of the line, it will gives us a freedom, smooth and comfortable feeling. The unique pattern are inspiration used in the form of furniture, ceiling and wall feature and also layout space design. Through inspiration propose to the overall space, customer will have a mesmorable dining experience in interior space of client’s restaurant.

PROJECT BRIEF

To design a fine dining restaurant space, for Beta KL, at Lot P02-2, Bamboo Hills, Segambut, 51200 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur. The built-up area is 5387 m².

The design intention of this fine dining restaurant space is to create a space with both formal yet modern retro environment by implement multiracial elements.

This can be achieve by proposing inspired ceiling design, ambient lighting, material selection, selection of bright and fresh color scheme to create strong contrast and reflect multiracial elements and also furniture selection to retain fine dining’s formal atmosphere.

Beta is split into three main areas, A layered staged drinking space perfect for events and people watching occupies one corner, a conservatory light-filled indoor garden space for customer leisurely sipping and snacking with each other.

At the centre of these three ‘regions’ is the concept inspired central bar, a spectacular red hues element top bar counter part, canisters and jars rising out of vibrant jade tiles bottom bar counter part, with a little bit of gold element as an embellishment of the central bar.

The bulk of the space is inspired by an upscale dining area with the ceiling and flooring forms and shapes design of 'Bunga Raya', the hibiscus, national flower of Malaysia , batik textured carpet flooring and full size glass windows that open to bring the outside in. 

OUTDOOR LANDSCAPE

Drawing inspiration from the Malaysia traditional Rumah Gadang ox horn like roof design, our restaurant facade captures the essence of traditional elegance.  As an interior designer, I am proud to present a blend of tradition and innovation, inviting guests to embark on a culinary journey that celebrates the spirit of Malaysian culture.

ENTRY VIEW

Embracing the vibrant nostalgia of 80's-90's Malaysia, the restaurant's main entryway exudes the electrifying charm of chinese performance stage elements. Drawing inspiration from the iconic long red curtains of performance stage during that era, the design captures the essence of excitement and anticipation. As guests step through the entrance, they are enveloped in a sense of grandeur and festivity, setting the restaurant for an unforgettable dining experience steeped in Malaysian cultural flair. As an interior designer, I am thrilled to blend the richness of tradition with the allure of nostalgia, inviting patrons to embark on a culinary journey that transcends time.

RECEPTION AREA

SIPPING AREA

Inspired by the vibrant hues and intricate textures of the Indian saree, our restaurant's sipping area is a captivating fusion of cultural elegance and modern comfort. The bar high stools are adorned with textures reminiscent of the luxurious fabrics of the saree, evoking a sense of opulence and refinement.

Beneath, the green element of carpet flooring serves as a homage, represents a new beginning, as well as the harvest and happiness in Indian community.

CENTRAL BAR

The restaurant's central bar stands as a captivating focal point, blending elements of traditional Chinese red symbolism with the allure of jade green element. The bar's top section draws inspiration from the vibrant hues of Chinese red, symbolizing prosperity and good fortune. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, the bar top exudes elegance and vitality, inviting patrons to gather and indulge in delightful concoctions.

Beneath, the bar's bottom section features exquisite jade green tiles, symbolising chinese jade green stone, known as the “stone of heaven”, bring prosperity, success, good luck, renewable, longevity and even immortality. The jade tiles add a touch of opulence and sophistication, creating a harmonious juxtaposition with the bold red elements above. Moreover, the gold element has a meaning of wealth and prosperity in Malaysia chinese community. 

DINING PODS

The overall shape of dining pods are inspired by the 'Sigal', the hat of the Kadazan's traditional costumes, ethnic group in west coast of Sabah, East Malaysia. Where the decoration the back decoration colour pallete is inspired by the 'Baju Burung', Iban's traditional costumes, lived tribal lives in the state of Sarawak, East Malaysia. Each pod is meticulously crafted to reflect the vibrant colors, patterns, and textures of these indigenous cultures, evoking a sense of connection to the rich heritage of Malaysia. Guests are enveloped in a cocoon of cultural authenticity as they dine, surrounded by elements that pay homage to the Kadazan and Iban communities. 

DINING AREA 

Inspired by the graceful beauty of Malaysia's national flower, 'Bunga Raya', the hibiscus, our restaurant's dining area features a stunning flooring and ceiling design reminiscent of its elegant petals. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, the hibiscus-shaped flooring creates a captivating focal point, inviting guests to immerse themselves in the essence of Malaysian culture.

Enhancing this visual spectacle is the batik-textured carpet flooring, inspired by the intricate patterns and vibrant colors of Malay traditional costumes. Each step taken upon the carpet resonates with the rich heritage and artistry of batik, adding warmth and depth to the dining experience.

OPEN KITCHEN

Inspired by the intricate craftsmanship of Malaysia's traditional handwoven baskets, the restaurant's open kitchen is a dynamic fusion of culinary artistry and cultural heritage. The kitchen design pays homage to the meticulous weaving techniques passed down through generations, evoking a sense of warmth and authenticity.

Just as each woven basket tells a story, our open kitchen invites guests to witness the culinary journey unfold before their eyes. The layout reflects the organic flow and communal spirit of Malaysian culture, fostering a sense of connection between chefs and diners.

The interception rings, reminiscent of tree canopies or natural growth patterns, serve as focal points that anchor the space and encourage collaboration and interaction among users.

Throughout the co-working area, you'll find a seamless integration of natural elements, from living plant walls to cascading greenery suspended from the ceiling. These biophilic features not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the space but also contribute to improved air quality, reduced stress levels, and increased productivity among occupants.

Workstations are strategically placed to maximize natural light and views of the surrounding greenery, providing an inspiring and energizing environment for creative thinking and problem-solving. Comfortable seating areas and communal spaces offer opportunities for networking, brainstorming, and relaxation, further fostering a sense of community and connection.

Surrounded by lush greenery and bathed in the warm glow of the sunset, chilling inside the relaxation hub surrounded with tranquil oasis offers the perfect escape from the everyday hustle. Relax in comfort as you soak in the tropical ambiance and let your worries drift away. 

LIVING ROOM

The luxurious living room of Tropicana Villa, bathed in warm sunlight across the full height glass window and adorned with contemporary furnishings, it's the perfect blend of elegance and tropical charm. Sink into plush sofas, and let the breathtaking sunset scene outside become part of your relaxation experience. 

WALK-IN WARDROBE & MASTER BEDROOM

In the master bedroom, comfort and elegance reign supreme, with luxurious linens, plush furnishings to ensure a haven of relaxation. Adjacent, the walk-in wardrobe boasts sleek finishes and ample storage, providing the ultimate dressing experience with seamless style.

DINING AREA & KITCHEN AREA

The dining area seamlessly connected next to the kitchen area with a partition wall in elegance grey marble and gold coating finish. Bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun, both space is a perfect fusion of style and functionality. Modern furnishings and natural accents create an inviting atmosphere for gatherings, while the adjacent kitchen boasts state-of-the-art appliances and sleek finishes for seamless meal preparation, making every dining experience unforgettable.
