Meet "Candy Mat Hatter"
Hello there! I'm Isaiah and this is my first submission to the "Meet Mat" contest entry and first time really using Substance Painter. It was a great learning experience and I really enjoyed the process!
Update - 19 Jan 2024
Final renders. I decided to give Mat a sort of "Willy-Wonka" clothing style considering that still fits with the candy theme. Also changed the head from a pinkish lollipop swirl to a green gumball shell with a caramel (if such a thing exists). Didn't get to detail Mat as much as I would've liked but I'm happy with the final result.
Update - 16 Jan 2024
Wanted to start the process of giving Mat an interesting face, so far used the brush tool to create some peppermint eyes and a licorice mustache. Looking to give him a candy corn nose and colorful monocle as well!
Used the brush tool to add some sprinkles and chocolate syrup to the base. Use a simple color gradient to color the sprinkles but will probably change that a bit later to make the colors more random.
Updated mainly the base and face today. I edited the body material a bit as well, giving it a few more "sugar coated" layers so the "Sour Patch Kids" body could stand out a bit more in the render
Update - 15 Jan 2024
The initial base texture I completed on Mat. I really just wanted to try experimenting with different layers and tools to see what kind of candy-like textures I could replicate so far. Definitely a lot more work to be done and some more textures to experiment with but I'm happy with what I was able to discover on my first use of Substance Painter.
Some reference images that I pulled from the internet. Looking to create a whimsical "Candyland" like character full of color and unique textures to imitate the look of various sweets.
