(and the transformation of the man that saved the world)

The Incredible True Story is a major motion epic taking place in the year 2115 following Capt. Quentin Thomas and First Infantryman William Kai, the pilots of: THE AQUARIUS III. 

Life on earth as we know it has changed. We have destroyed our home planet and we now search for a new planet. This job is left to both Thomas and Kai to find our new home: Paradise. We follow the two as they reminisce about life on earth, oldies music, and the future of humanity.

This project has been the better part of 2 years of development at Capilano University. Everything here from the pipeline of virtual production to the characters was built from the ground up. I got the opportunity to use a cutting edge motion capture studio to build this world and I'm so happy I got the chance to learn some of the tools used in the VFX industry. 

All of the character motion capture was done by.... Me! I'm not the worlds greatest actor so you can best believe there was some cleanup done, but it was electrifying to see everything I was doing be transferred into the virtual world. I played both Thomas and Kai, so trying to figure out their mannerisms and how to get into the roles mentally (and physically) was a challenging experience. Believe me, spending 8 hours in black cotton with ping-pong balls and a funny helmet is no easy feat!

The general tools for creating this virtual production included: Optitrack Optical Motion Capture, Faceware Wireless Headcam MK3, Manus Prime X gloves, Unreal Engine 5, Motive, Motionbuilder, Shepherd, Faceware Studio, Maya, Marvelous Designer, and Metahuman Creator (phew!)

This absolutely incredible environment was created by Kyle Mcneill. He spent the better part of last summer building it, and it absolutely paid off. The enviornment was based off Logic's Incredible True Story album artwork by Sam Spratt. The fact he was able to build this much off of only one reference image with such accuracy still blows my mind.
