Hi I'm Alex, a 24 year old concept artist specializing in environment concept art and prop design. My focus is portraying scenes with an implied narrative that feel real and cohesive, adapting my style to fit and enhance it.

Unknown tower

The main objective behind this piece was to create an alien like structure, having no noticeable purpose. Firstly I explored possible designs and selected the most interesting ones, after that I explored more in deph the setting and further developed some ideas for the tower.

Design of the agent sent to check on the newfound structure. I focused mainly on different equippement uses and styles, ranging from a more light weighted armor focused on resisting harsh environments to a more tecnological and plated equipment. The most important detail that was implemented in all iterations was some sort of breathing aid, since the armor was designed specifically for harsh environment.

Jungle Tribe

This is a three part project in which I explore the idea of an explorer on a journey in search of a tribe living deep in the jungle. The tribe's existence was already proven, the only thing unknown was it's exact location.

The first two parts are focused on building up the mood and developing the setting, the last part is more focused on exploring possible designs, the architecture and way of life of the tribe.

- First Part -

An explorer in search of a hidden tribe, that supposedly lives deep in a lush jungle. Not much is known about them, with exeption that they are thought to be deeply connected with nature.

- Second Part -

Just before complete nightfall, the explorer finds some signs of civilization. The structure he found was clearly created for some purpose, was it to scare off unwanted visitors or some other reason was unknown to him.

- Third Part -

Here I explore the concept for the tribe's village and how it could look like, especially the shaman's house and it's interiors.

Closeup and some interior details.

Isolated pantheon

The idea at first was creating an isolated and abandoned building with hints of a refined and glorious past, that's why I took as reference the Pantheon and the Colosseum in Rome. To enhance the feeling of abandonment I placed it into an unkept forest filled with dried trees. Later mid development I decided to give it some life, so I changed it to a place known only by few by adding some lights and a figure guarding it's entrance.

Some sketches exploring some building designs and a better look at some models and materials used.

Circuit board city

A piece I had fun making, inspired by the layered cities in Warhammer 40k. I mainly focused on the idea of a city centered more around the buildings then the population living in them and I tried to emphasize it by giving it a feeling of suffocation by clustering many tall buildings close to each other.

The pieces takes place at different times, the first at day while the city is at work, the second at night where the only thing visible are the lights coming form the buildings.

3D models and sketches made to explore the cities evironment

Heart Canopic Jars

Ancient jars that the historians thought were never created. The ancient egyptians once believed the soul rested inside the heart so they left it inside the mummified body, without removing it. But they instead created the canopic jars for the heart with another purpose in mind and they were used only by selected few capable of seeing the soul.

Here I imagined a setting where for some reasons many souls would awake and group up forming a single mass hovering over the city.

Forever sailing

Here I explore the idea of a ship, which even after the death of its crew, keeps sailing with them. For this reason i decided to portray their routine both in life and in death.

The main focus of this piece was portraying the passage of time and feel of abandonment.

Ghost city

"The city was abandoned some years ago and now only some survivors and scavengers still remain, the only real safe place for now is this city's tallest building, I heard it wasn't compromised yet."

For this piece I started with a simple sketch, than I made a simple 3D blockout to use as a guide so I could start photobashing properly the various buildings facades. Once done I did some paintover to add more details and grunge where needed.
