Ben Rodgers - 3D Game Artist
I'm a 3D artist, specialising in environments and props for games. I've just finished my second year of studying Game Art at the University of South Wales. These are a few projects I've worked on over the past year.
Medieval Back and Forth - Realtime 3D Environment
This was my entry to an Artstation competition - The brief being to create a real-time 3D environment based off a concept.
My goal was to recreate the 2D concept shot from Lada Shustova as close as possible. I used modular pieces for most of the assets, but only modelled what the camera could see.
I used Maya to model, Substance Painter for texturing and Unreal Engine 5 to create the scene.
A full breakdown and progress is on my Artstation.
Real-time 3D Upright Piano
This next project I was asked to write a breakdown article for The Rookies. This was a lot of fun and hopefully gives a good look at my work process.
This project was about optimising and trying to get a realistic model without a high polycount.
My main pipeline is Maya - Substance Painter - Unreal Engine. Any sculpting I use ZBrush and Photoshop is handy for creating alphas and making any final tweaks to the renders if needed.
The scene renders were taken in Unreal Engine, I used Marmoset for the stand alone piano renders.
Timber Taxi - Realism 3D Prop
This was a personal project to get some experience with photo realistic renders. I found a toy online to recreate in 3D, nothing too complicated as I wanted to focus on the rendering side of things. I also used Megascans assets for the environment on this one.
Thanks for taking the time to look at my work. These were fun to create and I'm looking forward to my next projects.
