ROUGE BRIQUE
Some backgrounds of a 2d animated short film on which I worked as part of my final project.
Hello,
This year I worked on Rouge Brique, a 2d animation movie for my final study project. I did background roughs, layouts and paintings.
Here you can already see the artistic direction of the film. We have a hazy atmosphere with industrial and very metalic elements.
To do these sets, I made a rough from a storyboard. I then drew a layout and then painted on it.
Here in particular, I have painted two different methods. For nearby elements I used several layers of lights and shadows with detailed textures. For the distant elements, I painted with dark values that I gradually lightened up as if it was acrylic.
On this low angle, I cheated on the perspective. The buildings close on left and right have their own vanishing points.
I did this because if I had respected the perspective we would have had the impression that the buildings were leaning and it was more impractical to have a pleasant decor to look at even if the perspective is not respected.
This decor was made with a fisheye perspective because we have a travelling down and we had to see the decor from two different points of view.
In addition, I made several lighting variations because the light must sizzle before the travelling.
Here are a few simpler sets that have an interesting lighting.
A few roughs I like.
On this background we have a perscpective in downhill and leaning. It was interesting to do and I enjoyed doing it.
Thank you for taking the time to watch my work !
