Environment Art | Game Props
These are two pieces I worked on this past year since I started my Education at Futuregames in September of 2022.
Candelabra
The candelabra is a piece I got to work on during three separate courses at Futuregames — concept art, 3D modelling and 3D texturing. The task throughout was for us to create a portfolio piece from concept to game-ready prop.
The lowpoly is at around 3000 triangles. I made the lowpoly in Maya first before I moved on to sculpting the highpoly in ZBrush. I then returned to the lowpoly to make a few adjustments, making sure they matched in preparation for baking.
I textured it in Substance Painter, creating a highpoly bake as the base to start from, then painting in details like the oxidation by hand.
Croton
As part of a three-person group assignment during my education at Futuregames where we made a diorama, we were also to each create a hero prop for our scene. I got to make this tree and I designed it after a Croton plant.
The images above are from the scene we made together, so I myself have not made all the assets seen in the background behind and around the tree.
I textured the lanterns and tree stem in Substance Painter; first making highpoly sculpts in ZBrush and then baking those into the normal and other texture maps in Substance. I painted the leaves by hand in Photoshop and generated the normal map for them in Photoshop as well.
The total polycount landed at around 2500 triangles. We had a budget of maximum 5000 tris per hero prop, as well as a total budget for the whole scene to account for.
