The Laboratory

The original concept art, The Laboratory was done by the talented Gabin Février. This project was done for my Advanced term final project for Think Tank Training Centre. The project was to take an existing environment concept art and adapt it in 3D using a CG film workflow. The project took a total of around 4 months. I really fell in love with the environment concept based on its colors and setting. The project was a lot of fun, as I got to work on many different types of objects and materials. I think a good chunk of my time was spent on modelling the individual pieces of the time machine and look development. Trying to capture the essence of the concept with respect to the lighting and the look of some of the materials and background took a lot of learning. I got to experiment with some compositing in Nuke with the candle flame and also some matte painting with the background behind the glass. Overall had a lot of fun working on it and learnt so much. Modelling was done in Maya, texturing in Mari, compositing in Nuke, matte painting in Photoshop and rendered with Vray.
