I've studied Game Art at university and I specialise in character art. This is a showcase of what I believe to be my best work all taken from my final year.

I made a stylized version of Chris Redfield, a character from the Resident Evil franchise. This was for my final year project. I chose Chris due to him being one of my favourite characters plus Resident Evil 5 being one of my favourite games. I personally really enjoy working on stylized pieces so I chose to make this project stylized. Marvel v Capcom 3 was the main art inspiration for this project.

I gave Chris a budget of 100k polys due to some research into fighting games polygon counts along with me wanting to push his topology up as much as I could for a more smooth model. His Hydra shotgun originally had a budget of 20k polys but when I was cleaning the topology it went down a lot, which worked out pretty nicely as it still retained the roundness and detail that I wanted it to have.

Here is his high poly model:

For my version of Chris, I made some concepts starting out for his outfit as I wanted it to be a more unique design rather then simply doing an existing costume for him. The final costume displayed was the one that I picked and during his 3D development, he'd receive some design changes in order to improve the model.

Chris to this day is my most complex completed 3D project and it took a lot of endurance for me to finish his project. I invested a lot of time into each part of his 3D process, from concepts all the way to his final render shots. I even made custom shaders for his Unreal file, it was my first time playing around with shaders. He was my toughest project.

This next project is of SpongeBob and Patrick. I had an amazingly fun time working on these two along with the Patty Wagon. This was another project that had my creative control as I chose to do them for one of my modules, with approval. I absolutely adore the first SpongeBob film along with its game adaptation that was released all the way back in 2004, I still play it to this day. Their costumes are based off some of their 2004 movie game costumes.

SpongeBob and Patrick were mostly made in 3ds max, with only a few pieces for the high polys being made in zbrush such as SpongeBob's face. This project made me more comfortable with poly modelling due to more practise.

For my final display I've decided to go with my T-rex known as Terry. Ark: Survival evolved was the main inspiration for this project and Terry's design was made by me.

Terry had a poly budget of 45k polys around and he had a decent budget for his textures. I decided on having a 4k texture base for Terry's body for additional resolution on a key part and I split off his gear into 2k texture sheets.

His high poly utilizes a lot of alphas on the sculpt in order to speed up the addition of his scales.

Here are the concepts that I created for Terry's saddle design. The theme in my mind was some sort of military related T-rex because I loved how over the top that idea sounded. I was initially torn between making him either desert or woodland themed, in the end I chose desert. His final design was a mix between two of the concepts.

Terry was also a challenge to complete. Making an entire dinosaur along with a custom saddle was hard. I just kept going with his development, that's usually my go to strategy if things get tough. No matter how tough a project is, progress is progress and if I keep at it, whilst ensuring to take breaks, then the final product would be something special.

Those are some of my university projects, I'm happy with how they turned out.  I've learnt a lot at university and I'd love to continue making 3D characters.

Thanks for spending some time to check out my work!
