My Concept Art Journey

Concept design ,this is a group project where we work on the concept based on a story we made.We were tasked to go through a series of design process and the final will consist of 1 character,1 creature,1 prop,1 vehicle/mech and lastly 1 environment.

For my group,we made a story namely ''Soul's Comet'',basically a story about a teenager who lost his dog due to age,but in the fateful night,soul's comet appeared,souls that has died within the year appeared on the sky and march towards a certain direction together.The teenager(Leon) happened to see his dog's soul marching along with other souls.Being the naive and impulsive one,he packs his stuffs and ready to embark on the journey to find his dog's soul,hoping to bring it back by retrieving the soul.

I took part in designing the :

-Spirit Goddess

-Sprout(Caretaker of flowers in the cave)

-Functional bag(this is for another character namely Catherine,who joins Leon on this adventure during Leon's journey)

-Spirit boat 

-Spirit Cave

I mainly focus on designs for the Goddess and spirits while my other groupmates handles others (such as designs for Leon and Catherine).

When the protagonist(Leon) happened to witness the soul's comet and his dog's soul marching towards the certain direction with other souls that have passed away within the year.

When the side character(Catherine) opens the secret path to the spirit cave through solving the puzzles.Protagonist(Leon) immediately runs inside ignoring Catherine's shouting about safety.Uncaring about the energy forces released from the entrance to the Spirit Cave.Desperate got the best of Leon as he rushes inside the cave hoping to find his dog's soul.

3rd illustration I did for my group project - Soul's Comet

I was given choices to make a poster or a splash art in this task.So i thought about what the goddess would be doing when she is not on the job for guiding the spirits back to where they should be.Thoughts about the goddess is in the cave while plucking flower petals and interacting with souls in the cave piqued my interest as I immediately started develop it.

-There are times when Goddess is free from her job,that's the time to explore her hobbies.plucking flower petals and sprinkle them to the water source in the Spirit Cave,as well as interacting with the souls became her favorite past time when she is on her free time.

Matte Painting - This is a series of personal projects where we are tasked to make an environment painting that are ready to use for game. This task's topic given is Apocalypse.

Catastrophe

-In the current modern era,a group of family went for a shopping spree in the busy city centre during their weekend.Only to meet the wrath of violent tsunami advancing towards them,engulfing and attempting to destroy the city people once called heaven for shopping enjoyers.

Steamy Cityscape

-In a city powered by steam,smokes engulfing the city is a thing that citizen has gotten used to. Adding on the tower that was built in the middle of the city square is unevitably an added eyesore to the citizens.However the standalone ‘’eyesore’’ do get attention for it’s unique building construction.Curious of the interior construction of the ‘’eyesore’’.As if looking at it can decipher the mystery.Maybe finding a way in is the fastest solution instead.

Tree of Life's Chamber

-In the extravagant hallway,a tree can be seen at the heart of the interior.Waters flowing down creating a pool at the heart of the hallway.Illuminating the purity of the environment.Worshipped by the citizens,calling it the ‘’Tree Of Life’’.Rumor speaks that any disease can be cured by drinking the holy water in the chamber of the tree while the tree is also able to grant wishes to those who prayed heartily.

Of course,it is rumor.There are bound to be people who believe and people who does not believe. With the environment this wide along a tree that people worship.Citizens of higher ranking sometimes held a wedding ceremony at the chamber as well in order to receive the blessing from the Tree Of Life.

The Floating City

-In the floating city,a royal palace took the attention of the citizens the most as the palace is the biggest building in the city and usually shines the brightest in the night.Roof powered by the sacred gemstones.Surrounded by pure flowing waters,flower petal shaped pathways built in the core of the city for various purposes.As the palace that shelters the ‘’Tree Of Life’’.Detour pathways are built around the palace in order for all citizens to be able to worship the tree without entering the palace.

Sometimes citizens wonder if the city is floating due to the existence of ‘’Tree Of Life’’.No one knows the answers as the tree was passed down by the ancestors who did not provide an answer at all.
