For this project I made a 3D scene based on a painting.

The idea for this project was to take a painting and make a 3D scene based on the lighting and composition of the painting. The theme of my 3D scene was the Armorer from The Mandalorian.

The painting is called The Blacksmith Shop by Morgan Weistling.

Modeling & Texturing

The scene exists of models that I made myself  and Megascans. The background is mostly filled with Megascans except for the shelf and the container. The models that I made are made using Maya and then textured in substance painter.

The clothes of the Armorer are made using Marvelous Designer. This was my first time using Marvelous Designer so in the beginning it was kind of difficult but after a while, I got the hang of it.

The fur was made using Xgen. This was also my first time using this, but after doing some research it was not as difficult as learning Marvelous Designer in my opinion.

Simulations

For this project, I created some simulations in Houdini. I made a fire simulation for the middle part that creates smoke for the whole scene. I also made a simulation for the small torches on the furnace. I created 2 version for the small torches. One normal resting version and one version that hits the metal tongs and creates an impact around the metal tongs .

Lighting

For the lighting of this scene, I used 6 lights. On the screenshot, you will only count 4 but there are 2 more in the middle of the furnace. The 2 in the furnace are for lighting the character and for lighting the inside of middle ring of the furnace. I also used some lights just to add some small highlights like the one behind the character.
