Description

Device of Bakudan is a 2D action platformer where you use bombs to create paths in levels and destroy enemies along the way. Mix bombs to make reactions, and use all of their effects to your advantage!

Mechanics:

Bomb levels and EXP
Every bomb can be leveled up by being used. Every damaging bomb gains EXP whenever attacking an enemy, and special bombs gain EXP when doing their function.

Limited bombs
Some of the bombs that can be acquired have special effects that can benefit the player a lot. To compensate, they have limited uses, and must be found in the level before being able to be used.

Reactions

Another important mechanic is elemental reactions - what happens when a bomb interacts with a different element:
- Fire Bombs can evaporate Ice clouds and overload Electric stars.
- Electric Bombs can electrify Ice clouds and overload when touching lava.
- Wind Bombs deal bonus elemental damage when they explode near a different element.

Elemental weaknesses and resistances
Each world has a different element associated with it, so naturally, each elemental enemy will have different levels of weakness to different bombs. For example:
- Fire Bombs are amazing against Ice enemies, but they barely hurt Fire enemies.
- Electric enemies are weak to Fire and Ice, but they resist Electricity.
- Chaos enemies resist Normal Bombs, but they are easily destroyed by Wind Bombs.

This project was developed as the final university project of our team. The concept of the game started as something completely different - a 2.5D platformer with a big focus on puzzles, where bombs were only used to clear said puzzles. However, over the last year, we changed and developed this idea into something playable and, according to players, very fun and original - a 2D platformer that focuses on the bombs and being able to interact with everything by throwing them.

The game released on May 25th for free on Steam and so far has had a positive reception, with several people complimenting the pixelart, the music composed for the game, and the different bombs the player can obtain, along with feedback for certain aspects of the game that could be improved.

The game is available for free on Steam! (A review would be very appreciated too, a very good way to improve is by listening to feedback!)
