Hungry As Always

by Manveer123 on 30 May 2023 for Rookie Awards 2023

Hungry As Always is a Diner that brings customers back to the 90s, with old classic music playing and design and colors of the diner representing the feel of what an actual diner would look like.

Manveer Singh Bhatia | Game Environment Showcase

This submission represents my 1.5 - month journey of learning Environment Design module  at MAGES. I embarked on this journey with no prior knowledge of Environment Design. I am continuing to hone my skills and evolve as an artist. My passion lies in 3D environments, and look forward to working on other environment projects in the near future.

Hungry As Always

Hello! I'm Manveer Singh, an Environment Artist currently studying at MAGES.

Hungry As Always represents my first opportunity to explore this 3D environment project with Unreal Engine. The challenge was fair, given the interior environment I had chosen and the studying of what kind of assets were needed to be placed in the Diner. The challenge also required time management as to how long was needed to model each asset within a certain timeframe. However the process was unparalleled.

My inspiration for this project was taken from Artist David Vanson. My aspiration was to create the Diner with vibrant colors and joyful theme giving players the 90s vibes.

Video Render

Work Process:

Over a period of 1.5 months, I embarked on an intensive journey to create Hungry As Always. The process involved modeling,  UV Unwrapping, Texturing, and rendering in Unreal Engine, all within a certain time limit. I used 3DS Max to model and uv unwrap the assets, while using substance painter to texture them. The final assembly took place in Unreal Engine. I used Decals for the posters on the walls and frames.

Breakdown:

I used these references to build my environment.

I experimented with certain textures on substance painter to match the specific object as to how they look but some of them I tweaked its texture. This was a really fun process!

Breakdown:

As for the lighting, I used spotlight for the bar counter lights to make them shine downwards but also used point light to give the lights some brightness as well. Same application was applied towards booth lights. For the ceiling lights most of them were point lights. I faced a couple of issues with the lightings but managed to fix them in due time. The Neon lights weren't an issue at all as those were done on substance painter.
