Visual Development Projects

Visual development is the design of storytelling moments and elements; these can include characters, environment, props, and even key illustrations. Here are my best visual development projects that I worked on from the later quarter of 2022 to now (2023).

Key Illustrations

These key illustrations capture story beats in the projects, focusing on the different character moments.

For the illustration pipeline of Toil of The Nakak, I modeled the environment in Maya before taking it into Photoshop for a full paint-over.

This project depicts the story of Thai Prince, Mahidol's time in Massachusetts; studying medicine at Harvard University. I tried to capture the feeling of arriving in a new country and the process of making friends and integrating into a new culture. The story of this young prince is very similar to my own experience of moving to the US to pursue my education, thus this project is very personal to me.

Environment Design Callout

This key illustration went through a few design changes before finally landing on the current one you see here.

Room And Prop Design

The room in the illustration below can be seen as a blown-out view detailing the set design and the many props that populate this small environment.

Prop design and explorations for a mockup game based on Tonko House's 2014 film, The Dam Keeper.

The Little Rat is a short film produced at DigiPen Institute of Technology by the team Pipeline Pilots. The short film is about an insecure mouse, Minuet, who must learn to be the bigger rodent after being teased by some local rat teens leads them to a mutual predicament.

My task as the concept artist for the short film was to create an environment for the rats. I referenced a lot of real-life props such as the cereal boxes and oil bottles for the buildings as well as hanging Christmas lights as street lamps.

Creating The Look of The Film

The task of creating the final look for the film was not an easy one,  I went through multiple styles and designs for the film before finally reaching what is seen here.

Designing And Painting The Backgrounds

My other responsibility as the environment designer was to create line art and paint the backgrounds for the film. The film ended up having more than 40 shots and all the backgrounds were painted with a consistent, high quality and attention to detail; here are some of my favorite backgrounds from it.
