DIGIDOUBLE

The Digidouble is a look development exercise that we did at ESMA during 16 weeks under the supervision of Baptiste Lebouc.
The goal was to fully replicate our face in CG in the most accurate and realistic way possible.

The first step was photoscanning our face. Then we had the choice of using Metahuman workflow from UE5 to be able to give more life to our face.
Once the retopology part was done, it was time to re-sculpt the face. Because even though photoscanning helps a lot to gain time, it is not perfect. A lot of parts aren’t detailed or faithful enough to the reference. I had to spend quite some time fixing the sculpt to end up with something truly looking like me.

Then the texturing could begin. We used texturing XYZ in Mari for the skin texture. With this technique, the displace, bump and roughness maps are all working together, creating a more lifelike result.
I really enjoyed this part, all the more because it really deepened my knowledge on Mari

For the albedo, we were lucky enough to have access to a polarized camera : it takes pictures that gets rid of most of the reflections. So I did some image manipulation of a picture of my face to create a faithful albedo map !
Then I played a lot with the map of Albedo, Roughness and Subsurface Scattering in Photoshop to reach something I was happy with.

The shading and lighting were done in Maya with Renderman. Down here you can see my first attempt at shading with all the maps I did earlier to a more advanced stage.

Then it is time to do some grooming : it was done with XGen Interactive. This part was quite messy and hard to do. I learned a lot of things but overall it was the most long and painful part.
Here are my guides :

And eventually I ended up with something like this :

TIMOTHY from BARTHOLOMEW'S MAGIC FOREST

I also worked on the texturing and shading of a character for our short Bartholomew’s magic Forest. Here is the link for our participation : https://www.therookies.co/entries/22540

The modeling of the character was made by Maxime Crançon.

I did the texturing in Substance Painter and the shading with Renderman in Maya.

FACADE

This is my final year project for my second year at ESMA.
I did the little house of a lilliputian living in a forest.
I am responsible for all the aspects, from the first sketch to the final compositing.

Here are some sketches :
