The Tumultuous Calm After the Bloody Storm
Original concept. Responsible for all aspects except the bouquet (model and texture images were provided by an instructor)
Taking my original concept from my previous class, I decided to reinvent its notions into a more concise and complex composition, drawing inspiration from the historical events during the Russian Revolution. The main subject is a model of the Imperial Crown of Russia, a wooden Russian Orthodox Cross, unified by a bouquet of flowers to give the piece a more ‘painterly’ feel.
The crown symbolizes the power of the fallen imperial government, sitting on top of a Bolshevik report, documenting the number of military and civilian deaths on just one of the many days the war took place. The placement was meant to show that despite its collapse, the imperial government was responsible for the suffering and deaths of its people.
The cross, sitting in the shadows, represents its separation from the government state and the upcoming struggle between both parties for political power.
